Navy, featuring its customary high-powered option attack, boast the nation’s top rushing attack. Navy averages 333.2 ground yards per contest and sports a very balanced rushing attack. In fact, four different Midshipmen have rushed for at least 400 yards. Despite losing standout senior quarterback Brian Hampton due to a season-ending knee injury in October, Navy has continued to flourish. fullback Adam Ballard tops the club with 782 rushing yards and is averaging 5.1 yards per carry. Sophomore quarterback Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada has filled in admirably for Hampton, running for 416 yards and a team-leading 10 touchdowns. Defensively, Navy has allowed an average of just 20.2 points per contest to stand 45th among Division I-A clubs. The Midshipmen also rank 43rd in rushing defense (122.0) and 88th in passing defense (222.5). Rugged senior linebacker Rob Caldwell heads Navy’s stop unit, topping the club in tackles with 95. Navy enters the 107th Army-Navy Classic on a roll, carrying a three-game winning steak into the game. The Black Knights losers of five-straight football games own impressive overtime victories over Kent State (17-14) and at Baylor (27-20) and lost a heartbreaker to Texas A&M, 28-24, in San Antonio. Army ranks 66th in rushing offense (129.9), 113th in passing offense (131.8), 111th in total offense (261.7) and 87th in scoring offense (19.8). Wesley McMahand is Army’s leading rusher, averaging 57.6 yards per carry. Jeremy Trimble is averaging 4.3 catchers per game and is No. 2 in the country in punt returns, averaging 18 yards per return. The Army-Navy Classic returns Philadelphia for the 80th time, pitting the 3-8 Black Knights opposite the 8-3 Midshipmen at Lincoln Financial Field in a 2:30 p.m. kickoff and televised by CBS. Meineke Car Care Bowl-bound Navy can clinch its fourth straight outright Commander in Chief’s Trophy title with a victory over Army. The Black Knights will be looking to gain a share of their first Commander In Chief CIC since 1996 with a win. Army will also be out to avenge four consecutive losses to its arch rival, with Navy outscoring the Black Knights by a combined 176-54 margin the last four years.
