Auburn Tigers 2006 SEC West Preview PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 27 August 2006

After going a perfect 13-0 in 2004 and earning the #2 slot in the AP Poll, the Auburn Tigers took the field in 2005 with some glaring question marks. Their top tier running back corps was completely wiped out, and their new quarterback was still wet behind the ears. Still, the Tigers put forth an excellent campaign, and just missed out on going back to the SEC Title game. This bodes well for what lies ahead for Auburn in 2006.

Quarterback Brandon Cox is back to lead the unit after throwing for 2,324 yards 15 touchdowns and only 8 interceptions in 2005. The SEC's leading rusher in 2005, running back Kenny Irons ran for 1,293 yards and is also back to wreak havoc on opposing defenses. Irons workload will be heavy at first due to the unit's lack of an experienced wide receiver corps. The offensive line returns six players with starting experience.

Auburn's defensive front seven looks a bit raw for my taste, but there's no doubt these guys are simmering with enormous potential. The cream of this defensive crop is the secondary that returns almost completely intact. Look for them to help ease the front seven's transition, and eventually turn this group into one of the better defensive units in the country.
