BCS Controversy Is Nothing New In 2006The BCS will do its self a disservice if Michigan and Ohio State are allowed a rematch.  If they want a rematch, the Big Ten needs to create its own conference championship game. Michigan should not get to go because they have already lost to Ohio State. What does it prove if Michigan wins in the rematch? In my mind, if the rematch occurred and the Wolverines won, neither should be No. 1. Never forget, that lowly SEC Vanderbilt took Michigan in the Big House to the wire this season.

Why not give Wisconsin a shot if you love the Big Ten? They also only have one loss and never got to play Ohio State. It will be a real tragedy if USC, Notre Dame, Arkansas, or Florida win out and do not get a shot at Ohio State. If the rematch occurs, the BCS should be terminated at the conclusion of the game in a special ceremony at the 50-yard line.

I have to give the AP poll its due dropping out of this debacle that is the BCS. In 2003, the AP ignored the BCS and awarded its own No. 1. For years the AP has been the gold standard and in my mind I hope they do the right thing again and award it to another team if Michigan does beat Ohio State in a rematch. My gut tells me they will, although the BCS has set itself up nicely with its championship game on January 8, a few days after all the bowls, which allows voters to forget the past and concentrate on the last game at hand. Michigan should only be allowed a rematch if Arkansas, Florida, Notre Dame and USC all drop a game and have two losses.

The BCS gave a big sigh of relief Saturday night with the departure of Rutgers from its line-up of contenders. Forget about it if you think Rutgers, West Virginia or Louisville will get the same consideration as the other one-loss teams from powers that be,  Big Ten, SEC or Notre Dame.

Boise State will punch its card to the BCS bowl mix with a win over Nevada, a game that can be seen on ESPN Saturday night. However, the undefeated Broncos from the WAC have no chance of getting into the championship game in Glendale, Arizona. BSU is an odds-on favorite to get a bid to the Fiesta Bowl also in Phoenix
