With less than a week to go before BCS selection Sunday, the BCS bowl picture is starting to clear up as match ups are penciled in and back room deals are made. While there is still plenty of jockeying among league and bowl officials going down, I have kept my ear to the ground and have come up with a pretty solid idea of who will be playing who in the BCS Bowls beginning on New Years Day and ending with the BCS Championship Game on Jan 8.
The BCS Championship game, to be played in Glendale Arizona, is half filled with Ohio State and is awaiting the outcome of the Southern Cal-UCLA game to be played Saturday. If the Trojans defeat UCLA expect the Men of Troy to be playing the Buckeyes for the National Championship.

Boise State will be playing the winner of the Big 12 Championship game between Nebraska and Oklahoma in the Tostito’s Fiesta Bowl on New Years Day. The Bronco’s bid hasn’t officially been announced but Fiesta Bowl officials have given a wink to BSU officials to start selling tickets which went on sale Tuesday (Nov 28) for $150 per ticket.

LSU might get a trip out west to the Rose Bowl to fill the open slot opposite Michigan if USC defeats UCLA on Saturday. LSU helped itself by knocking off SEC West Champion Arkansas last Friday. It is possible the grand daddy of bowls might go for Florida if they lose to Arkansas in the SEC title game but that scenario is less likely than taking the Tigers. If Florida loses the SEC Championship game and drops below LSU in the rankings then LSU would by far be the most attractive candidate for Pasadena. If by chance UCLA defeats USC on Saturday then the Trojans and Wolverines would swap places and Michigan will be playing Ohio State in the Championship game and USC would play LSU in Pasadena.
Look for the ACC Champion, Wake Forest or Georgia Tech, to be playing Louisville or Rutgers in the Orange Bowl in Miami, Fl on Jan 2. If Rutgers defeats West Virginia in Morgantown on Saturday (Dec 2.) the Scarlet Knights will be making the trip to Miami. If Rutgers loses at West Virginia and Louisville defeats Connecticut then the Cardinals would be in the Orange Bowl. West Virginia’s chances are slim but they do have a chance to get the Big East bid if both Louisville and Rutgers both lose and are ranked below West Virginia when the final BCS poll comes out Sunday, Dec.3.
