Oklahoma and Nebraska meet with an automatic Bowl Championship Series bid on the line Dec. 2 in the Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship game in Arrow Head Stadium in Kansas City at 8 p.m. (EST). Oklahoma’s 27-21 win at Oklahoma State last Saturday, the seventh straight for the Sooners, coupled with Texas’ loss to Texas A&M one day earlier, pushed the Sooners to the divisional championship against Nebraska.
Even though they didn’t meet in the 2006 regular season, this marks the third straight season in which Oklahoma and Nebraska have played. The Sooners won in Norman in 2004, 30-3, and then triumphed at Lincoln last season, 31-24.

Oklahoma lost its best football player, Heisman Trophy candidate and All-America tailback Adrian Peterson, to a broken collarbone back on October 14. The Sooners have thrived without Peterson because they are a well rounded deep team and perhaps because adversity is nothing new to the Sooners. The team lost starting quarterback Rhett Bomar before the start of fall camp because he received extra benefits from his summer job. Wide receiver Paul Thompson moved back to quarterback, the position he held before getting beat out for the job by Bomar in 2005. Thompson completed 61.5 percent of his passes and 18 touchdown passes. Sophomore wide receiver Malcolm Kellly who is 6-foot-4 is a big target for Thompson who has 52 catches with eight receptions for touchdowns.
