Boise State vs. Oregon State Match Up PreviewThe Boise State University Broncos host the Oregon State University Beavers Thursday night, “On The Blue” as how BSU coaches, players and fans alike refer to the unique blue turf on the floor of Bronco Stadium. ESPN will televise the game nationally with Chris Fowler calling play by play, Kirk Herbstreit providing color commentary and Erin Andrews handling sideline reporting.

The Palms Sports Book –Las Vegas on Sunday night, installed the Broncos as an 8-point favorite. This is the final game in what has been an entertaining four-game non-conference series between the two schools. Every game of the four-game set has been nationally televised. The Beavers enter the game looking to snap a four-game non-conference regular season road losing streak that dates back to a 35-3 victory at Temple in 2002. One of those four losses was to Boise State 53-34, Sept 10, 2004. Boise State has won 46 of its last 48 games at home. Oregon State leads the series between the schools 4-1.

If you like offense, the last three games have not disappointed. In those three games, Oregon State has averaged 464 yards in total offense and 30 points; BSU has averaged 418 yards and 35 points.

Monday, Beaver’s Head Coach Mike Riley commented on what he thinks OSU must do to win the game. “We definitely have to step it up this week,” Riley Said. “It’s going to a different level. It’s in a tough place to play, Boise State will have a great atmosphere there and they’ll obviously be very fired up for this game in particular. This has turned into a good rivalry game; two of the last three years have been very, very close. So we’re going to have to improve and play better. We like our start but just like everything, week to week if you expect to win, your going to have to get better.”

Boise State and OSU are both entering Thursdays game coming off lopsided wins versus Division 1AA Big Sky Conference teams. BSU blanked Sacramento State 45-0 in Boise while OSU had an easy time with Eastern Washington in Corvallis 56-17.

In comparing playing a soft opponent to going to Boise State, OSU Coach Mike Riley said, “I think you learn more about who you are every week. This will be a great challenge and I’m looking forward to the opportunity we have to go over there and play a good football team and see where we are from there.”

Boise State is favored by 8 but this writer thinks Oregon State will cover +8. Mike Riley is a veteran College and Professional coach who will always have a high scoring offense.

The total for Thursday’s game is set at 58 ½. For those total players the Over looks to be a good play. These teams are going to put points on the board.
