Clemson Tigers Play Kentucky Wildcats in Music City BowlThe University of Kentucky and Clemson University football teams will do battle Friday in the Gaylord Hotel’s Music City Bowl from LP Field in Nashville, Tenn., and will be broadcast on ESPN with kickoff at 1 p.m. (EST).

The Kentucky Wildcats (7-5) of the SEC and Clemson Tigers (8-4) of the ACC were two teams going in different directions at the end of the 2006 regular campaign after entering the season as two programs under totally different expectations from supporters and pundits alike.

Kentucky head coach Rich Brooks was sitting on what was perhaps the hottest seat in college football after going 4-8, 2-9 and 3-8 in his first three seasons heading up the Wildcat’s program. After coaching Kentucky to a seven win season including a 24-20 upset home victory over the Georgia Bulldogs on Nov. 4, Brooks’ status couldn’t be better today.

Clemson, under head coach Tommy Bowden, was expected to challenge for an ACC championship and be a player in the national BCS hunt but fell short of those expectations. The Tigers were ranked No. 10 in the nation on Oct. 21 with a 7-1 record after a 31-7 win over Georgia Tech but lost three of their last four games including a 31-28 loss at home to arch-rival South Carolina to finish out the season.

The favored Tigers (-9 ½) not only stumbled in their straight up record to end the regular season but were atrocious against the spread failing to cash for backers in their last four football games and five of their last seven. Clemson cashed for the OVER in its first four games but the UNDER dominated on the total cashing in four of the last five games the Tigers played. A total of 57 ½ has been established on the game.

Kentucky finished strong for its backers by cashing in four of its last five games after failing to cash-in in four of its first six games. The UNDER prevailed by cashing in 6-of-11 games played in by the Wildcats.
