The Nebraska Cornerhuskers came on strong in the second half to crush the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs team in the college football season opener which kicked off on Saturday, September 2nd, 2006 at 3:30 PM EST.
The Bulldogs showed everyone they could play in the first half and kept the game close at the half going in for the break down by two scores. The Cornhuskers poured it on in the fourth quarter racking up 3 touchdowns. Nebraska was able to spread the ball around to many players and even the backup quarterback Joe Ganz. Starting quarterback Zac Taylor 21 for 33 for 283 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception in the win.
The bright spot for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs offense was in the second quarter when wide receiver Johnathan Holland caught a beautiful 40 yard 1 handed catch that he tipped toed into the end zone for a touchdown. The perfect pass was the first college career touchdown pass from quarterback Zac Champion but the grab by Holland, the WAC 60 meter indoor champion sprinter, was the better to watch. The speedy wide receiver ended the day with 4 catches for 110 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Nebraska's defense shut out the Bulldogs after the score by Holland.

Bulldogs kicker Danny Horwedel kicked a 23 yard field goal for Louisiana Tech. The Cornhuskers running back Marion Lucky scored on a 13 touchdown run. The Bulldogs scored a touchdown on a 40 yard pass from Zac Champion to Jonathan Holland. At the end of the second quarter, Cornhuskers running back Cody Glenn ran in for a 1 yard touchdown run.

Josh Mueller caught a 6 yard pass from Zac Champion for the Cornhuskers. Running back Brandon Jackson ran for a 25 yard touchdown run. The score capped off a 5 play 64 yard drive which lasted almost 3 and a half minutes. Wide receiver Hunter Teafatiller caught a 29 yard touchdown pass from Joe Ganz.
