The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles and the Ohio Bobcats will battle it out Sunday, Jan. 7 in the GMAC Bowl from Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., at 8 p.m. (EST). The C-USA runner-up Golden Eagles are favored by a 6-point chalk over the Bobcats, runners-up in the MAC. The game will be televised by ESPN. 

Ohio ran off seven straight victories to end the regular season with a 9-4 record and earned a spot in the MAC Championship Game as the Eastern Division winner. The Central Michigan defense shut down the Bobcats keeping them from winning a MAC title. However, the GMAC Bowl called wanting a match-up with USM.

The USM offense is led by quarterback Jeremy Young who completed 147 passes on 259 attempts for 1609 yards and 12 touchdowns. Freshman running back Damion Fletcher provided plenty of balance by rushing for 1330 yards on 256 carries. 

The berth in the GMAC Bowl is the first bowl bid for the Bobcats since 1968. Ohio will also be in search of its first bowl victory in school history. The USM Golden Eagles are much more familiar to the bowl scene as they are playing in their ninth bowl game in 10 years.

USM was extended its GMAC Bowl bid after losing to Houston 34-20 in the C-USA title game. The loss snapped a four-game Golden Eagle winning streak. The Eagles managed an 8-5 record and went 6-2 in conference play.

The Golden Eagles are 5-7 ATS and the totals bettors who followed the Eagles saw the same 5-7 record favoring the OVER. They are 7-7 in bowl history but have won their last two in the New Orleans Bowl over North Texas and Arkansas State.

The UNDER was a popular play on the Bobcats this year as the MAC school was 7-2 to the UNDER in their last nine contests. They were 5-2 ATS over their final seven games, giving backers some confidence that the washout in the MAC title game was an anomaly.
