Nevada offers one of the most alive, glitzy cities in the world, Las Vegas. Las Vegas is a gambling town and one gamble coming soon is who to vote for to win the next Senate term. Current Senator John Ensign was a shoe in for re-election from the beginning. He had it in the bag to win his next term. That was until Jack Carter, son of former President Jimmy Carter, was elected by the Democratic Party to run. John Ensign is confident that the people of Nevada will vote based on what he has done for the state over the last six years and what he will do in the next six years. He is a strong believer in a fiscally responsible government and defying both the leadership of his party and the President, he opposed the new Medicare prescription drug entitlement and the costly 2002 Farm Bill. In addition to that he also opposed the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform bill. Overall Ensign receives a lifetime rating of 94% from the American Conservative Union and an “A” grade from the National Taxpayers Union. He has been named a “Taxpayer’s Hero” for his lifetime efforts against government waste. For a short time in March 2006, Ensign blocked the nomination of Vice Admiral Thad Allen to become the next Commandant of the United States Coast Guard. Allen was the principal federal official responsible for handling the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, replacing FEMA director Mike Brown. He is also a strong supporter of the U.S. effort in Iraq. Currently Ensign is leading the polls 52-48%. Political Betting Odds - Senate Betting at Bodog.com John Ensign (REP): 1/6 Jack Carter (DEM): 9/2 Field (Any Other Candidate): 25/1 Ensign’s opponent Jack Carter has only been a Nevada citizen for 3 years. The people believe he hasn’t witness enough of what the state needs in order to be their leader. He is pro-abortion, for a guest-worker program for illegal immigrants and has called for withdrawal of the troops from Iraq within six months. Carter has been focusing on the differences between the two races instead of what the state of Nevada and the people need and want. He has been criticized for not having lived in the state very long and for trying to use his father for popularity.
