Maryland and Wake Set To Battle For ACC Atlantic Division

Maryland (8-3,5-2 ACC) and Wake Forest (9-2,5-2) play in the final game of the regular season for both schools this Saturday when the Terps play host to the Demon Deacons at Chevy Chase Bank Field at Byrd Stadium beginning at 7:45 p.m. With Boston College's loss to Miami Thursday, the winner of the contest will claim the Atlantic Division title and advance to the ACC Championship game to face Georgia Tech on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. in Jacksonville. The Maryland-Wake Forest contest will be televised live nationally in prime time on ESPN.

Maryland and Wake both had winning streaks snapped last Saturday. Maryland lost at Boston College 16-38 and Wake Forest dropped a home game to Virginia Tech 6-27. Maryland committed four turnovers against BC with three being directly turned into touchdowns for the Eagles. Terps quarterback Sam Hollenbach threw for 247 yards and led the team to 22 first downs in spite of the loss. In the Wake Forest loss to the Hokies, Deacon’s quarterback Riley Skinner went 17-for-30 for 195 yards passing. Wide Receiver Nate Morton caught five passes for 94 yards to highlight the Demon Deacons offense.

The Wake Forest-at-Maryland game carries much significance in the Atlantic Division race of the ACC. Maryland and Wake are tied atop the standings at 5-2. Boston College was knotted with Maryland and Wake in a three-way tie atop the division standings but with the loss Thursday night to Miami eliminates the Eagles and sets up the game between the Terps and Demon Deacons as a winner-take-all in the division.

Maryland is giving up a single point chalk (-1.0) as favorite on the betting board and 65% of the betting public also like the Terps. The betting total for the game is set at 39.5. The Terps have not covered the line in their last two football games but have covered three of their last five.

On Saturday, Nov. 18 Wake failed to cover and lost SU to Virginia Tech at home but have done well in 2006 going 7-3-1 ATS.
