The Midshipmen will be playing in a school-record fourth-consecutive bowl game and will be going for a school-record third-straight bowl win. Both schools are looking for their third 10-win season in the history of their programs.

The Eagles soared for most of 2006, but the landing wasn’t as smooth in a crushing season-ending 17-14 loss to the Miami Hurricanes. The expectations were to reach the summit and play in a major bowl game. They were held to just 55 rushing yards and quarterback Matt Moore was sacked four times in the devastating loss. Boston College posted wins over No. 18 Clemson, No. 22 Virginia Tech, but reached their pinnacle on Nov. 18th when they knocked off the pesky Maryland Terrapins, ranked 21st overall. Rumblings of a major bowl game faded away with the loss to Miami. The offense was nothing to write home about, generating just 359 yards per game. Matt Ryan threw for just 14 touchdowns and amassed 2700 yards passing with three rushing touchdowns. The ground game was balanced with six different players registering scores. On defense, the situation was much brighter as the Eagles surrendered just 20 touchdowns and ranked 12th in the nation in rushing yards allowed.

The Midshipmen ran their way back to the bowl season with the nation’s best rushing attack. Five Midshipmen rushed for over 400 yards in leading Navy to 333.2 yards per game on the ground, led by Adam Ballard’s 782 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterbacks Brian Hampton and Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada combined for 1,062 rushing yards and 20 majors in Navy’s spread package. But Navy are at the other end of the spectrum in the passing department, ranking dead last in the country at 57.9 yards per game, making Navy very predictable to opposing defensive co-coordinators. The defense was acceptable statistically, ranked 69th in the NCAA at 344.4 yards.
