The Fighting Irish looked strong on offense right from the start. Quarterback Brady Quinn was 25 of 36 for 287 yards and 3 touchdowns. Wide receiver Jeff Samardzija caught 6 passes for 56 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Notre Dame defense shut out the Nittany Lions in the first half of the game and came out swinging in the beginning of the third when they recovered a fumble and ran it back for a touchdown.
Penn State was able to get a few scores in the second half including a field goal and touchdowns by Deon Butler and Daryll Clark. Anthony Morelli was 20 of 32 for 179 yards and 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
The last minute surge was too little too late for Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions team. Charlie Weiss and Brady Quinn were prepared today and executed flawlessly in the win.
