Odds to win 2007 Heisman TrophyIf there is a combination of words I don’t care to hear prior to Halloween it’s…Heisman Trophy Candidate. Never in the history of sports is an award more over hyped than this one. And here we go again, not even two weeks into the month of July and we are making bets on who will be the Heisman recipient in 2007.

It’s not the fault of the sportsbooks we over hype the Heisman race . The sportsbooks objective is to give the gambler what it wants; the opportunity to wager on a subject it feels passionate about. In this case, online sportsbook Sportbet.com provides the college football fanatic a long list of players who have any chance of winning the 2007 Heisman Trophy.

With kickoff to the 2007 College Football Season about 50 days away we at Point-Spreads.com will review the top three players who we believe have the best chance to carry off the coveted trophy.

While the list is long, I only see a few players who have an extremely good chance at winning. We can also count on a long-shot to crash the party towards the end of the season as Arkansas’ Darren McFadden did in 2006.

Speaking of Darren McFadden, he is our favorite at Point-Spreads.com to win the 2007 Heisman Trophy. If the blazing fast Razorback’s tailback can stay healthy and his team turn in a respectable showing in the SEC he will be the man. If there is one question mark, its how will McFadden handle the offense installed by new offensive coordinator and former Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks coach David Lee. While the Arkansas offense is sure to be more balanced than in the past, fans have been assured McFadden will still get plenty of chances to run the Wild-Cat package that vaulted him onto the Heisman scene in 2006. Sportbet.com has installed +450 juice on McFadden’s chance of winning the Heisman Trophy.

Another running back who is sure to get plenty of attention in Heisman balloting is West Virginia’s Steve Slaton , installed with a +400 odds chance of winning. Slaton was a top candidate in 2006 but was hampered late by injury. Slaton must also overcome the perception by many of the strength of (or lack of) his league the BIG EAST. Slaton is not the only Heisman candidate in his own backfield, having to share the spotlight with quarterback and Heisman candidate Pat White (+1200).

Any returning quarterback at Southern Cal is guaranteed a spot on the Heisman watch list and John David Booty is no exception. The former Shreveport Evangel High product has a great chance according to oddsmakers at Sportbet, having him installed a +400 chalk favorite.
