Chan Gailey battled Charles Weiss when their respective teams battled it out on Saturday, September 2nd, 2006 at 8:00 PM EST.  Notre Dame won the close hard fought game.

Travis Thomas converted from running back to linebacker to give the Irish more speed on defense.  They needed it against the speedy Chad Johnson.  The Yellow Jackets got on the board first with a pass from quarterback Reggie Ball to wide receiver Chad Johnson for a touchdown.  The home crowd got behind the team right from the begining.

Phillip Wheeler caused a key penalty on the drive that put Notre Dame in the lead when he went helmet to helmut with Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.

In the first half, Georgia Tech was able to get pressure on Brady Quinn and Yellow Jackets cornerback Jamal Lewis was able to get a sack.  Notre Dame missed a field goal in the half.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Reggie Ball has seen in all at quarterback.  Ball was 12 out of 24 for 139 yards passing and 1 touchdown.  Georgia Tech running back Tashard Choice ran for 63 yards on 15 carries.  Choice is a ball control runner that helped eat up the clock.

Brady Quinn from Notre Dame was 21 out of 36 for 224 yards passing and 1 rushing touchdown.  Quinn delivered the ball to several receivers including Samadzija and McKnight.  Darius Walker ran for 89 yards on 20 carries and 1 touchdown for the fighting Irish.  Quinn converted on 4th and 1 with a minute left to get the new set of downs and run out the clock for the win.

Notre Dame plays Joe Paterno and the Penn State Nittany Lions in South Bend on September 9th, 2006 and then battles Mchigan State on the 16th of September

Georgia Tech plays Samford on September 9th, 2006 and meets up with Troy on September 16th, 2006.
