Stanford Cardinals 2006 PAC 10 Conference Preview

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Stanford should easily top the 25 points per game they racked up a year ago with ten starters back on offense. Look for either of the Stanford Cardinals quarterbacks to get plenty of protection as the fully intact offensive line boasts a combined 122 starts.  Stanford Cardinals head coach Walt Harris has been known to produce solid wide receivers in the past, and he's got a super dynamic duo on hand with Mark Bradford and Evan Moore.  It's one of the best tandems in the PAC 10.  The defense only returns six starters from last season, and loses five of their top eight tacklers. There is some new talent on board, so hopefully it gels and eventually becomes a solid compliment to a much-improved Cardinals offense.

Special teams loses its four year starting kicker and top return man, so look for the Cardinal to drop statistically in this department. Head Coach Walt Harris did a terrific job coaching the Cardinal last season leading them to a 5-6 overall mark. However, their schedule is brutal and they have to play seven of their 12 games on the road this year. Look for Stanford to be competitive once again, but most likely come up just short of a bowl invite.
