TCU, after going a perfect 13-0 last season, saw its 2011 campaign get off to an inauspicious start as it lost to Baylor 50-48 in Waco. The setback marked just the second Horned Frogs loss since the 2009 season and gave indications that the team may be in for a down year after losing player like Andy Dalton to the NFL.

TCU regrouped quickly, though, winning its next three games before, again, falling unexpectedly to SMU in overtime at Amon G. Carter Stadium. That, however, would be the Horned Frogs last taste of defeat as they finished the season on a 7-0 run that included wins over bowls teams San Diego State, BYU, Wyoming, and a heavily favored Boise State squad.

The 36-35 upset of the Broncos essentially gave TCU the conference title in its first season as a Mountain West team, but more than that, it signified that Head Coach Gary Patterson, who returned just eight starters from last year’s Rose Bowl winner, had restored the confidence of the program after its two early setbacks.

Now the Horned Frogs will face another difficult test in a Louisiana Tech squad that went 8-4 overall and 6-1 in league play to win the WAC. The Bulldogs, like the Horned Frogs, come into tonight’s contest riding a seven game win streak.

While Sonny Dykes’ team lacks a big name win, it did play several quality teams close, falling by two points to Southern Miss, one point to Houston, and six points to Mississippi State.

TCU is the better team on paper and it owns the more prestigious pedigree, but the Bulldogs are no pushover. Do not be surprised if Louisiana Tech keeps this game close throughout, earning a cover in the process.
