Top College Awards Presented at Home Depot College Football Awards ShowThe top awards in college football other than the Heisman Trophy were given out at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Florida Thursday night. Troy Smith the senior quarterback for Ohio State University took home the Walter Camp Foundation award for Player of the Year and the Davey O’Brien Award for the nation’s best quarterback. 

Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn was awarded the Maxwell Award for player of the year while Arkansas’ Darren McFadden was awarded the Doak Walker Award for the best running back in college football. Smith, Quinn and McFadden are the three Heisman Trophy finalists who will be making the trip to New York this Saturday (Dec. 9) for the Heisman Trophy presentation.

The Big Ten offensive player of the year, Smith led Ohio State to a 12-0 record with 2,740 total yards. He threw a school-record 30 touchdown passes and led the Big Ten in passing efficiency.  

Quinn passed for 3,278 and 35 touchdowns this season, leading the Fighting Irish (10-2) to a Sugar Bowl bid. Notre Dame will face LSU on Jan. 3 in New Orleans.

McFadden set a school record with 1,558 yards rushing and scored 16 touchdowns to help Arkansas reach the Southeastern Conference title game. The sophomore beat out Michigan's Mike Hart and West Virginia's Steve Slaton and became the first Arkansas player to win the Doak Walker Award. USC's Reggie Bush won the Doak Walker Award last season. The award is named after three-time SMU All-American running back and 1948 Heisman Trophy winner Doak Walker. 

Wisconsin senior offensive lineman Joe Thomas captured the Outland Trophy, given to the nation’s top lineman. Calvin Johnson of Georgia Tech won the Biletnikoff Award as best wide receiver and Aaron Ross of Texas won the Jim Thorpe Award as the best defensive back. Patrick Willis of Ole Miss was recognized as the top linebacker by winning the Butkus Award. Arthur Carmody of Louisville picked up the Lou Groza Award for best kicker and Daniel Sepulveda of Baylor won the Ray Guy Award for college footballs best punter. Rutgers coach Greg Schiano was chosen as The Home Depot Coach of the Year for turning around the Scarlet Knights (10-2).
