The No. 9 Boise State Broncos of the WAC have plenty to prove on New Years Day when they line up against the traditional Big-12 powerhouse Oklahoma University Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona starting at 8 p.m. (EST). The Broncos (12-0) enter the game as heavy underdogs with the betting line at most sports books favoring Oklahoma ( -7 points), but no one outside of Idaho gives them more than a slim chance to win because they lack a marquee win. They are just 3-14 against BCS-conference opponents since joining NCAA Div 1A and 2-8 against Top 25 teams. Bet on College Football at WagerWeb! Bigger, stronger, faster and in a power conference where the spotlight isn't hard to find, the seventh-ranked Sooners (11-2) appear to have all the advantages over Boise State. But Oklahoma is also an example of what a little BCS success can do for a program on the rise. Not so long ago, coach Bob Stoops was convincing his Sooners they belonged with the big boys in the BCS. In his second season, Stoops took Oklahoma, a team that had finished .500 or below the five years before he took over, to the Orange Bowl for its first ever Bowl Championship Series appearance. Find Live College Bowl Lines Here! Boise State coach Chris Petersen finds himself in Stoops' old shoes now. The WAC champions are in the BCS for the first time, while Stoops and the Sooners have made it a routine. The Sooners didn’t seem to click in the season until hosting Iowa State on Oct. 14 winning 34-9 straight up and covering -18 against the spread. That win against the Cyclones began a started a game straight up winning streak for Oklahoma. The Sooners also covered against the spread 7-of-8 down the stretch. The Oklahoma defense also kept opposing offenses out of the end zone resulting in 8-of-9 totals cashing for the UNDER. For the season, the UNDER cashed in 9-of-13 games the Sooners played. Bet on College Football at WagerWeb! Boise State wasn’t nearly as big of a winner on the betting board as they were straight up. The Bronco’s only covered ATS five times while losing five times with one push. The Broncos cashed for the OVER in six of their eleven board listed games. |
