USC Trojans 2006 PAC 10 Conference Preview

by Thomas Jensen on Saturday, August 26th, 2006

Leading the Trojans this year on offense will either be quarterbacks John David Booty and Mark Sanchez. They've waited patiently to step in and make their mark along with many talented backs capable of becoming another electrifying producer. Both wide receivers Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith are also back to anchor the wide receiver corps, while the offensive line has been bolstered with talent over the years and should be nasty once again. The USC offense won't be nearly as dominating as it was a season ago, but expect it to be a potent group and more than pull its weight.

The Trojans defense slipped a bit in 2005, and head coach Pete Carroll handed the reigns over to new defensive coordinator Nick Holt who previously worked with Carroll as an assistant before his head coaching job at Idaho. His front seven is flat out nasty, and will be one of the main reasons why this group as a whole improves. Expect the Trojans defense to be the featured unit until the offense gels completely. The Trojans exceptional play the last four year's has spoiled us immensely, so a few losses this year might shock many. The Trojans get to play most of their stiffer competition at home, but the schedule still looks tough nonetheless.
