Wolverines Must Respect Hoosiers, Not Look AheadHow does Michigan head football coach Lloyd Carr get his second-ranked team mentally prepared to play Indiana University, a team that gave up 63 points in its last football game? How can the Wolverines’ players take a team seriously that is almost a three-touchdown underdog on its own field? These are questions, or issues, Carr must find solutions to before Michigan takes the field at Bloomington, Indiana to play the Hoosiers at 3:30 p.m. (EST) Saturday in a football game to be televised by ESPN.

All Carr should have to do to prepare his team for Indiana is show them game film of their most recent outing against Ball State, a team from an inferior conference who nearly killed the giant in his own house.

Carr knows his team can’t overlook the Hoosiers who he claims have some of the best young talent in the Big Ten Conference.

"We are looking forward to going to Bloomington to play an Indiana team that is vastly improved from a year ago.” Carr said.  “It's still a young football team, but offensively they have tremendous weapons. I think this young quarterback, Kellen Lewis, is destined for stardom. He's got great ability to run the football, but I think he's even more impressive as a passer. He's got a great release, a strong arm, and a guy that really has brought that team together.”

The Hoosiers are home underdogs +19 according to most sportsbooks but were also +19- point home dogs to Iowa on October 14th. Indiana won that game straight up 31-28. In the Hoosiers next game on home turf October 28th, Indiana was installed home dog again +8 and defeated Michigan State handily 46-21.

The Wolverines have not been top dog when it comes to being favorite dog missing badly against the spread in its last two football games. Michigan was favored –30 against Northwestern October 28th and struggled winning by 14 points in a game where their performance was blamed on the bad weather. Then in the near debacle last week allowing Ball State to cover +32. Ball State actually had a chance to win the football game.

Michigan backers might want to think hard before laying any more money on the Wolverines a team that has struggled recently in covering large lines. On Saturday bettors can count on Indiana to be fired up in its final home game of the season against the number two team in the land.
