BETonSPORTS plc. pleaded guilty to U.S. racketeering charges in federal court in St. Louis. The current directors agreed to cooperate with federal prosecutors case against the company's founder Gary Kaplan and former CEO David Carruthers as well as other co-defendants.
As Point-Spreads.com accurately predicted, the corporate officers decided to throw Gary Kaplan to wolves and has agreed to supply witnesses and evidence against him and other co-defendants in order to avoid further criminal prosecution.
The news is a “punch in the stomach” to Carruthers. The current board members and management team that agreed to work with federal prosecutors in return for avoiding indictment were recruited to BETonSPORTS by the former CEO.
"This plea, combined with the terms of the civil injunction should put an end to the BETonSPORTS illegal gambling empire," stated U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said in her statement.
Kaplan was arrested in March in the Dominican Republic on racketeering charges after being indicted in July 2006 by a U.S. grand jury. He and 10 others including former BETonSPORTS CEO David Carruthers are accused of engaging in racketeering, conspiracy and fraud.
Many industry insiders have blamed David Carruthers for pushing out Kaplan and putting BoS on a collision course with United States prosecutors.
