2010 Golden Globe Awards Odds

The 2010 movie awards season begins Sunday night with the 2010 Golden Globe Awards, presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press. The Golden Globes have grown in popularity in recent years and are seen as a pre-cursor to the annual Academy Awards to be held a month later. One difference is the Golden Globes also include television productions in their awards format. Due to their popularity, online sportsbook Bodog.com has installed betting odds on all of the Golden Globe Awards nominees.

2010 Golden Globe Awards OddsBodog.com oddsmakers are listing "Up in the Air" at 5/7 odds as the favorite to win Best Picture but are expecting James Cameron's "Avatar" (5/4) and the Hurt Locker (11/2) to put up some stiff competition. Also nominated in the Best Picture category are the Quinten Tarantino WWII flick "Inglorious Basterds" (10/1) and the smaller indy film, "Precious"(12/1).

In the Best Picture 'Musical or Comedy' category, the musical "Nine" has drawn the best odds of winning inspite of its poor reviews at 20/27 odds. Also expected to have a chance of winning is the outragous comedy "The Hangover (19/10) and "500 Days of Summer" (17/4). Also nominated are "It's Complicated" (6/1) and "Julie & Julia" (6/1).

Kathryn Bigelow is the odds favorite to win Best Director for "The Hurt Locker at 2/3 odds. James Cameron (Avatar) is installed at Bodog with the second best set of odds at 7/4. Also nominated, and their odds, are Jason Reitman 7/2 (Up in the Air), Tarantino 8/1 (Inglorious Basterds), and Clint Eastwood 15/1 (Invictus).

Competiton appears close in all the best actor categories. For Best Actor- Drama, the favorites are George Clooney 10/11 (Up in the Air) and Jeff Bridges 5/4 (Crazy Heart). Colin Firth is a strong contender for his role in "A Single Man" (11/2). Also nominated are Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela in Invictus (5/1) and Tobey Maguire (18/1) in Brothers.

In 'Best Actress- Drama' category predicting the winner is almost too close to call between Sandra Bullock 21/20 (The Blind Side), Carey Mulligan 5/4(An Education) and Gabourey Sidibe 2/1 (Precious). Also nominated are Emily Blunt 20/1 (The Young Victoria) and Helen Mirren 15/1 (The Last Station).

Bodog.com lists Daniel Day-Lewis as the odds favorite to win Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his role in "Nine" at 4/7 odds. Lewis is expected to be challenged by Matt Damon 3/1(The Informant) and Robert Downey Jr. 7/2 (Sherlock Holmes). Also nominated is Michael Stuhlbarg 6/1 (A Serious Man) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt 10/1 (500 Days of Summer).
