The Coens Brothers, No Country for Old Men is up for 8 nominations and they just might get all of them. Critics have been raving about this movie since it came out. Their up for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing. No Country for Old Men is about a drug deal gone wrong and the ensuing cat-and-mouse drama as three men crisscross each other's paths in the desert landscape. Heavy favorite No Country for Old Men 1/3 to win the most Oscars. The film There Will Be Blood is inspired by Upton Sinclair's novel Oil!, and tells the story of Daniel Plainview's quest for power in Southern California's oil boom of the late-19th and early-20th centuries. It stars Daniel Day-Lewis and Paul Dano. It’s up for a total of 8 nominations. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Sound Editing. I say above 50%. There Will Be Blood is listed at 7/1 to win. The animated movie Ratatouille tells the story of Rémy, a rat living in Paris who wants to be a chef, but is pressured to do otherwise by the disapproval of his family and the prejudice of humans. Using a somewhat hapless garbage boy as a means through which to indulge in his art, Rémy meets yet another obstacle in the form of a famous as well as antagonistic food critic named Anton Ego, "The Grim Eater." Ratatouille is up for 5 nominations which are, Best Writing (original screenplay), Sound mixing, Sound Editing, Music (Score) and Best Animated Film. They could clean house in 4 of 5. Ratatouille sits at 9/1 to win. The fresh new movie Juno has everybody abuzz in Hollywood. Juno stars Ellen Page as a sharp-tongued teen confronting an unplanned pregnancy. Juno is up for a total of 4 nominations which are Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay. There’s no way they’ll beat out There Will Be Blood or No Country for Old Men. But still Juno is posted at 15/1 to win. George Clooney plays Michael Clayton who’s an attorney who has to cope with a colleague's apparent mental breakdown and corruption of a major client of his law firm. Wow their up for a total 7 nominations. Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Director, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Score. It’s definitely possible to take home some Oscars for the Supporting roles. Michael Clayton is sitting at 12/1 to win. Atonement is up for a total 7 nominations in some categories their sure to clean house in. Their nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Best Adapted Screenplay, Achievement in Art Direction, Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Costume Design, Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures. These period piece movies can win in the easiest categories. Atonement is listed at 13/1. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is a movie about Bauby's life after suffering a massive stroke at the age of 43, which left him with a condition known as locked-in syndrome. The condition paralyzed him; his only remaining means of communication was the blinking of his left eyelid. It’s up for a total of 4 nominations, which are Best Director, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing and Best Adapted Screenplay. They won’t take Best Director and three won’t be enough. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly is listed at 15/1 to win. The 2008 Annual Academy Awards take place on Feb, 24 2008. |
