Oscar Odds have Coen Brothers as favorites to win Best DirectorSportsbook.com has posted Oscar odds on which film will win the 80th Annual Academy Award for Best Director making Ethan & Joel Coen the 2 to 9 odds favorite to win for directing No Country for Old Men. Here is a complete breakdown of the 80th Annual Academy Awards Best Director Oscar category for Point-Spreads.com readers:

The Coen Brothers are at it again after their film Fargo won at the 69th Academy Awards for Best Original Screen Play and Best Actress. They were nominated for Best Director in Fargo but eventually lost. This might be their year to take the biggest honor of any film maker. Ethan & Joel Coen – No Country for Old Men at 2/9 to win.

The Los Angeles Film Critics Assn. has already awarded Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood four awards including best picture and best director. These are helpful going into the Oscars, as winners of these awards usually go on to win the Academy Award for Best Director. Paul Thomas Anderson – There Will Be Blood at 7 to 2 to win.

Based on the memoir of paralyzed Elle magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, was runner-up to There Will Be Blood for Best Director at The Los Angeles Film Critics Awards. Julian Reitman – The Diving Bell and the Butterfly at 11/2 to win.

There wasn’t a whole lot of outstanding directing in this small town independent film, Juno, directed by Jason Reitman.  Juno was a good whole hearted movie but nothing stood out to be Oscar worthy. It was not nominated for any of the Los Angeles Film Critics Awards. The only other category Juno is in is Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Director.   Jason Reitman – Juno at 15/1 to win.

Director Tony Gilroy did a great job directing Michael Clayton but I think there in a whole different league here. I think the people choosing the winner are seeing Blood this year. Tony Gilroy – Michael Clayton at 25/1 to win.

The 80th Annual Oscar Show airs on Sunday February 24th, 2008.
