After much anticipation, the first episode of American Idol Season 9 aired tonight. Tonight was Ladies Night! The first twelve female contestants gave it their all despite Simon Cowell’s intimidating comments. The oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog.com have Katie Stevens at 13 to 2 odds favorite among all of the ladies to win American Idol Season 9.
Ryan Seacrest reported that Simon Cowell has told the press this will be a girls' year and wonders why he thinks that. "We've got an interesting mix," Simon says. This is a very close group. I've watched a little bit of the rehearsals. Some were good — some were not."
After watching tonight’s show, Lilly Scott (40/1 odds) was my absolute favorite contestant. Her voice is excellent and she brings something different to the stage. Lilly was actually homeless in Denver last year. She slept in her van! Didi Benami (7/1 odds) has a great voice but is very boring to watch.
Lacey Brown (25/1 odds) actually tried out last season but didn’t make the cut. She has a great look and may go far in the season. Crystal Bowersox (15/2) is the talented underdog. She plays several instruments but doesn’t have that “American Idol” look.
Michelle Delamor (45/1 odds) will probably be one of the contestants kicked off of Thursday’s show. She is hungry for the win but doesn’t have what it takes. Katelyn Epperly (40/1) was told she wore too much make-up tonight! She is an interesting contestant though. She even fronts her own Folk band.
Siobhan Magnus (12/1 odds) is a glassblower apprentice. Hopefully she makes it another week. Paige Miles (33/1 odds) is a cute Florida girl that pales in comparison to the other girls. Ashley Rodriguez (7/1 odds) is a fan favorite! She has the look but may need several voice lessons. Katie Stevens (13/2 odds) is only 16 years old but has an amazing voice
Haeley Vaughn (18/1 odds) was told to stop smiling so much tonight! She has an amazing voice for a 16 year old girl. Janell Wheeler (15/1 odds) did not impress Simon. She’s a karaoke queen at best.
It's going to be a busy week with “American Idol”. The top 12 guys perform tomorrow, and then two boys and two girls will be kicked off on Thursday!
