Oscar Odds Avatar or Hurt Locker Best Picture? Who will win Best Picture this year at the 82nd annual Academy Awards? Most suspect Kathryn Bigelow’s Hurt Locker or James Cameron’s Avatar will take home the Oscar. Online sportsbook BetUS.com posted odds on the Oscars and has The Hurt Locker winning at 6 to 5 odds and Avatar winning at 4 to 7 odds.
Both Avatar and Hurt Locker have received a whooping nine nominations each. Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Bastards is close behind with eight nominations. In addition to Best Picture, Avatar is nominated for Best Direction but no acting nominations. Hurt Locker is up for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Original Screenplay. Jeremy Renner is up for Best-Leading Actor for his performance in Hurt Locker.
Of course there is drama and controversy already surrounding the award show! Just yesterday a lawsuit was filed against the film Hurt Locker and is now being hammered by the media. The voting for the Oscar Awards ended Tuesday so the bad press is unlikely to affect the outcome of the evening. Another heated topic surfaced after one of the producers of Hurt Locker sent an email the Academy members suggesting they vote for his movie instead of the $500 Million film, clearly referring to Avatar. The producer that sent the email is now banned from attending the event.
The Academy Awards are set to take place at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday night. With most of the films earning multiple nominations this year, the outcome of the evening truly is anyone’s guess. It will definitely be a must-see event! Tune in to the 82nd annual Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7th at 8 p.m. on ABC.
