While 17 year old David Archuleta remains the one to beat in becoming the next American Idol, the young Murray, Utah native can probably sense his nearest challenger David Cook closing from the rear Cook will never be accused of having the pure voice with perfect pitch and range as Archuleta possesses, but Archuleta lacks in overall performance qualities that Cook seems to have. The remaining weeks of the show should prove to be interesting as these two men battle it out in American Idol season-seven competition. Online sports wagering leader Bodoglife.com has updated its betting odds since Tuesday’s (April 1) American Idol competition showing Archuleta as a 21/20 odds favorite to win the competition with Cook not far behind with a19/10 odds chance.
“I expect the competition between Archuleta and Cook to get real tight as the season progresses,” said Point-Spreads.com entertainment wagering handicapper Reno Gold. “These two men aren’t the only ones in the competition with talent, however; barring any major melt-down, I predict it will be Archuleta and Cook standing as the final two in May.”
Michael Johns , the 29 year old Aussie more recently hailing from Buckhead, Georgia, would like to make the competition a three-male race with 19/2odds, the third best of the group.
Jason Castro at 35/1 has the least chance of winning America Idol of the male contestants.
The Tuesday program had a country theme with Dolly Parton serving as the seasons first mentor. Having Dolly couldn’t have come at a better time for contestant Kristy Lee Cook, whose talent obviously is stronger with the country genre. Cook did a better than adequate job in singing Parton’s “The Coat of Many Colors. She needed a strong performance to have any chance of being retained another week. According to the oddsmakers, Kristy has a 100/1 shot at winning American Idol.
The best of the females, according to Bodoglife.com , is Carly Smithson whom oddsmakers say has a 10/1 chance of winning. Smithson did a good job with “Here You Come Again” drawing raves from judges Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul. Smithson didn’t get much of a break from judge Simon Cowell who blasted her way of dress. “I think you need to have a word with whoever is dressing you,” Cowell said. At least Cowell thought her singing was ok. Probably well enough to keep her around another few weeks.
Brooke White is the second best of the females, according to oddsmakers who have tagged her with 13/1 odds chance of winning. White opened the program singing the Parton classic, “Jolene”.
Syesha Mercado took on a big risk in choosing to sing “I Will Always Love You”, the Parton song Whitney Houston made into one of the greatest hits of all time. Mercado did an adequate job with the song. It seemed to be a big hit with the audience at least. Mercado is hanging in strong with oddsmakers who give her a 20/1 odds chance of winning.
Ramiele Malubay has a slim 60/1 odds chance of winning American Idol and might be voted off Wednesday night. Her performance was probably the least impressive of the night on Tuesday.
