Tonight, American Idol contestants will be tasked with performing a song that inspires them as they kick off “American Idol Gives Back” week, the program’s annual charity event. This week features three nights of programming starting with Tuesday’s competition round, a charity show on Wednesday followed by Thursday’s elimination show. Last year, American Idol did not eliminate any of its contestants on the American Idol gives back program.
David Archuleta has been the person to beat since finals competition began, according to oddsmakers at Bodoglife.com . This week’s updated odds have Archuleta as a 5/4 odds favorite to become the next American Idol. Archuleta still needs to continue wowing the voting audience as competitor David Cook is hot on his heels with 3/2 odds. The remaining male performer, Jason Castro is a long shot with 30/1 odds.
When it comes to predicting a winner, oddsmakers have posted almost overwhelming -600 odds favoring a male winner. The top three favorites are males, Archuleta, Cook and Michael Johns. Odds on Johns winning American Idol are 8/1. The best bet among the girls is Carly Smithson at 17/2 odds followed by Brooke White (25/1) and Syesha Mercado (30/1). With 125/1 winning odds, country singer Kristy Lee Cook isn’t expected to last long and could be the next contestant to be voted out.
Following tonight’s performances, American Idol contestants will man the phones and take pledges from callers.
