American Idol is now down to its final-five contestants and from the looks of it, this year’s winner will more than likely to be one of the guys. Or that’s what oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodoglife.com seem to think. The odds calling for a male winner have soared from -600 to -1500 in the past week while the odds on one of the two remaining females are +600. 

It’s my opinion that Carly Smithson was the most talented of the girls, however, eliminated last week after nuking herself by singing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Super Star was controversial almost 40 years ago during its run and probably shocked a few voters last week; many of whom had never heard it. 

Of the women only Brooke White and Syesha Mercado remain, neither of whom will win American Idol. To bad we can’t fast forward the competition to the final two whom will be the two David’s, Cook and Archuleta. The remaining guy, Jason Castro , should survive another week or two but nothing is guaranteed. 

The final-five contestants will have Neil Diamond as coach and mentor for Tuesday’s program. This should be interesting and probably an undoing for Syesha or Brooke. The thought of a woman doing Neil Diamond stretches my mind much like it did for the guys doing Mariah Carey. 

My advice, though probably too late, for David Cook is; do “Kentucky Woman.” It’s perfect for you.
