Blake Lewis, while more talented and a better entertainer than Jordin , unfortunately drew the short straw for Tuesday’s performance show. Blake was clearly the front runner until the final song where he was forced to perform a song written by the American Idol Writing Contest winners. This song, a ballad, was clearly more suited for Jordin for which she blew out of the water after Blake struggled. It wasn’t fair but neither was Melinda Doolittle’s pre-mature elimination in the semifinals. At times over the past month I thought Jordin had the potential to make the finale but expected the final two to come down to Melinda Doolittle and Blake. I would like for one person to look me in the eye and tell me Jordin is a better singer than Melinda. American Idol-Six was Melinda’s to lose. Actually that is incorrect; Melinda had it taken from her, she didn’t lose anything. It’s my opinion that Melinda didn’t appeal to a younger television audience who happen to make up the majority of voters. How else could one explain how Sanjaya Malakar ever made it into the top seven if that wasn’t the case? It will be interesting to see who of the finalists will have the most successful career in the music business. I have no doubt agents and recording executives will be falling all over themselves in getting Blake’s signature on a contract as well as Melinda, LaKisha, Phil, Chris and Gina. Those aforementioned are all more talented than last night’s winner; however, Jordin is wearing the crown, lets see what she does with it. |
