It all came to a crashing halt tonight for Sanjaya Malakar. The 17-year-old was voted off American Idol. I guess his famous hair wasn’t good enough to save him this week.
Sanjaya Malakar, LaKisha Jones, and Blake Lewis were in the bottom three. Blake was sent back to safety, leaving LaKisha and Sanjaya. When Ryan Seacrest announced Sanjaya was going home, I think you could hear cheering around America. As he watched his farewell video he cried. However, Sanjaya had fun singing Bonnie Raitt’s “Something To Talk About” one more time, changing the lyrics to talk about his hair, of course.
It’s not totally surprising that Sanjaya was sent home this week. His performance last night was terrible. It was so bad that even his supporters couldn’t bring themselves to vote. I bet they are kicking themselves right now.
After speaking with a true Fanjaya, Ian Mitchell was upset that Sanjaya was voted off. He said, “What, Sanjaya was voted off? That’s bullsh*t! I’m not watching Idol anymore. I don’t even know who the other contestants are.”
Sanjaya has become a pop culture spectacle in recent weeks. People who don’t even watch American Idol are talking about Sanjaya. Late night comics and politicians are talking about him. He is one of the most searched people on Google right now.
It was about that time for Sanjaya to go home. It’s time to unload all the dead weight and continue with the contestants who can actually sing. The competition is going heat up over the next couple weeks. American Idol will go on without Sanjaya.
