I haven’t seen an upset like this since the Jets knocked off the Colts in the 1969 Super Bowl. Melinda Doolittle is going home from American Idol! Melinda… absolutely the most talented and considered by many (including Simon Cowell) as “the one to beat” in this year’s American Idol competition has been kicked off. This is an outrage! There must be a conspiracy! But after 60-million votes, Doolittle is gone while Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis will slug it out in the finale next week.
Don’t get me wrong, I really like both Jordin and Blake. I thought there was some chance Lewis, the beat boxer from Bothell Wash., might edge Sparks in votes based on the fact he is more talented. While Jordin has a tremendous future, I thought Blake was the better and more polished performer.
Following Tuesday’s performances by the remaining trio, oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bookmaker.com established Doolittle as the one to beat with +675 money line odds. For those whom had the insight to wager on Melinda’s demise, will have a nice pay day. Based on a $100 bet, you will be punching your ticket for $675. On the opposite end, you folks who bet $245 to win $100 on Blake’s departure (considered a “Slam Dunk” by oddsmakers); the bookies want to express their appreciation. Make no doubt about it; the books are enjoying a windfall on this one; just as they did after Super Bowl III.
Bookmaker.com will soon produce odds on who they think will become the next American Idol. At this point I would say it’s anybody’s guess.
