American Idol voters keep Sanjaya, reject Chris Sligh

American Idol voters keep Sanjaya, reject Chris SlighTo the surprise of many including myself, Chris Sligh, the curly haired, mop-top tenor, was voted off American Idol, announced on Wednesday night’s elimination show on FOX Television. The interesting thing about Sligh’s departure is two or three of the remaining contestants are clearly less talented. However, that doesn’t seem to matter in this competition; especially over the last two elimination votes resulting in the exit of Sligh on Wednesday and Stephanie Edwards a week ago. We (point-spreads.com) predicted on Wednesday that Haley Scarnato, the long legged beauty, would get the axe due to her obvious lack of singing talent. Scarnato made the bottom two vote getters but survived.

According to offshore sportsbook BoDog.com, the odds on Sligh’s chances of winning the American Idol competition were 15/1, much better than the odds on Scarnato at 28/1. For that matter the odds on Gina Glocksen, probably the fourth best female, are 27/1. For you non-gamblers reading this report who need an explanation, if you bet $100 on Glocksen and she wins, you get $2,700. Other long-shots still in the competition are Phil Stacey (19/1), Sanjaya Malakar (17/1) and Chris Richardson (9/1).

Of the favorites, Melinda Doolittle, is the odds on choice (1/2 or $200 bet to win $100) to win the big prize when the competition ends in May. At this point I am not sure if she is touchable and neither do the judges. That doesn’t mean a thing at this point the way the public votes. There is even a campaign on XM Radio by shock jock Howard Stern to get as many people as possible to vote for Sanjaya Malakar in order to throw a monkey wrench into the whole process. So far, the talent less Malakar is hanging in there. If you are a conspiracy theorist maybe a 17/1 bet might be worth the risk.

According to oddsmakers , Lakisha Jones, the big voiced buxom bank teller from Flint, Mich., has slipped to third (7/2) behind Jordin Sparks  now at 1/1 odds to win and in second place.

Blake Lewis seems to be the only male contestant who has a chance at winning Idol with 4/1 odds. It’s going to be interesting to see how things shape up in the next few weeks. Especially since this isn’t a singing competition.
