Betting Odds on the 79th Annual Academy AwardsThe 79th Annual Academy Awards, the Oscars, will air live from the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California on Sunday, February 25th, 2007. The Oscars will be hosted by comedian Ellen DeGeneres this year. As the popularity of online betting grows, so does betting on such things at the Academy Awards.

“We see a majority of our entertainment wagers come from the Academy Awards, said BetUS.com spokesperson, Reed Richards. “This is a competition that applies to everyone. These are the people that entertain us on a daily basis and you want to see them win.”

All eyes will be on director Martin Scorsese as he tries to win his first Oscar as the Best Director for his mob hit “The Departed”. Scorsese has been nominated a total of five other times but has gone home empty handed in each of those years. BetUS.com has made Martin Scorsese the favorite at 2 to 17 (Bet $17.00 to win $2.00) to win the Oscar for Best Achievement in Directing so it is no wonder that everyone in Hollywood believes this will be his year.
Winning an Oscar can increase a movie’s gross revenue by $10 to $50 million dollars. Hence the reason that the big studios spend millions of dollars to touting their films nominations.
