Beyonce Knowles has been nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, “Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Drama” for her role in “Dreamgirls” and “Best Original Song” for “Listen” from “Dreamgirls. Bodog.com has Knowles listed as a 10 to 1 underdog for the Best Actress category. News of her nominations comes just a week following her five Grammy nominations. The pop superstar has proven she can act just as well as she can sing.
"Being a part of 'Dreamgirls,' and working with a director as wonderful as Bill Condon, was an opportunity of a lifetime for me, enabling me to grow as an actress," said Beyonce on her Golden Globe nominations. "To be nominated in two categories by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is an honor that I graciously accept. I am so happy for the accolades being given to the movie as a whole. I was thrilled to work with Oscar winner, Jamie Foxx, and I am happy to share these nominations with fellow nominees Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy."
Set in the 1960’s and 70’s, “Dreamgirls” chronicles the struggles and successes of an African-American girl group. Beyonce stars as the groups lead singer, Deena. Knowles lost 20 pounds for the role but has bounced back to her normal weight since filming wrapped.
Beyonce Knowles made her acting debut in 2001 with the made-for-television movie “MTV’s Hip Hopera: Carmen.” She went on to play “Foxxy Cleopatra” opposite of Mike Myers in “Austin Powers In Goldmember.” She appeared in “The Fighting Temptations” and most recently “The Pink Panther.” “Dreamgirls” will open on Christmas 2006.
After a huge year of success what’s next for Beyonce? Earlier this month, there was speculation that Beyonce would marry her boyfriend of four years, rapper Jay Z, on a yacht in the Caribbean for his birthday. However, that was not the case. It was merely a birthday bash with 20 of their closet friends. Beyonce does want to marry Jay Z. She told Parade Magazine, “Of course I want to get married. My parents have been married for 27 years, and they’re still in love. That’s a great example for me. I know it’s possible. I think about the future, I want to have a family. I want to be happy.”
