It’s no surprise Justin Timberlake is the favorite with 16/15 odds in the “Best Pop Vocal Album” category for the 49th Annual Grammy Awards by Bodog.com. Timberlake came back on the scene late this year releasing his second solo album “FutureSex/LoveSounds” in mid September. He had come off a much needed break and had not released any music since his solo-debut album “Justified” in 2002.
Before we find out if Timberlake will take home the Grammy, we will see him in the crime thriller “Alpha Dog”, being released on January 12, 2007. After months of legal disputes, a federal judge ruled that the film can be released despite objections from Jesse James Hollywood, the murder suspect the film is based on. Hollywood’s attorney will file an appeal based on his belief that the release of “Alpha Dog” could jeopardize his client’s ability to receive a fair trial.
Timberlake shouldn’t get too comfortable though…his former Mickey Mouse Club costar Christina Aguilera is also nominated for “Best Pop Vocal Album” for her “Back to Basics” album, released in August 2006. Aguilera is currently on tour and sparked controversy with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals). Fashion designer Roberto Cavalli is designing all of the singer’s outfits for her world tour. Aguilera reportedly told Cavalli not to include any real fur. He must have missed the message and sent her on stage dressed in a white fox fur wrap. Aguilera replied by saying she was “very upset” and she insists that she “only wears fake fur.” James Blunt’s album “Back to Bedlam” is also up for nomination in this category. The British singer came on the scene fast at the end of 2005 and has managed to stay on the radar with his hit singles “You’re Beautiful”, “High”, and his most recent song “Goodbye My Lover.” Blunt was also nominated in four other categories including “Record of the Year”, “Song of the Year”, “Best New Artist”, and “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance”. In response to his nominations Blunt said, “The Grammys is a pretty phenomenal institution…so to have my name associated with it is a great honour.” If that’s not enough for Blunt, maybe his rumored engagement to supermodel Petra Nemcova is. The 27 year old was spotted wearing a diamond on her engagement finger while shooting a Hewlett Packard commercial this week.
The couple has been dating since June. Their publicists refuse to comment. John Mayer’s “Continuum” and “The River In Reverse” by Elvis Costello and Allen Toussaint were also nominated for the “Best Pop Vocal Album” award. Bodog.com posted odds on who will win the "Best Pop Vocal Album" award at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards?
"Back To Basics" by Christina Aguilera: 5/4
"Back To Bedlam" by James Blunt: 19/9
"The River In Reverse" by Elvis Costello & Allen Toussaint: 23/5
"Continuum" by John Mayer: 8/3
"FutureSex/LoveSounds" by Justin Timberlake: 16/15
