Michael Richards “Kramer” apoligizes for Racist Remarks

Michael Richards

Michael Richards apologized on the Monday appearance on CBS "The Late Show With David Letterman."  Seinfeld’s reputation for being a light-hearted, comedy series may be tarnished forever due to Kramers' racial outburst on set at Laugh Factory comedy club in Hollywood on Friday night.

"I got heckled and I took it badly and went into a rage. " he said.  "For me to be in a comdey club and flip out and say this crap, I'm deeply, deeply sorry.  I'm not a racist.  That's what's so insane about this."

Richards' appearance on Letterman came during a segment with friend and former co-star Jerry Seinfeld.  Seinfeld was already scheduled to do the show before the incident took place.  Seinfeld invited Kramer to join him via satellite.  Jerry Seinfeld was quoted as saying that Richards made a "horrible mistake" when questioned about the tirade.

The rant began when audience members refused to be quiet during Richards’ set which led to him screaming the “N-word” at the top of his lungs.  Humorist Paul Krassner felt "Richards should've used a standard – nonracist – heckler response such as 'I thought I told you to wait in the test tube."  Audience members who thought they were going to see the humorous “Kramer” and instead saw a racist, began walking out as Richards left the stage.

A video of the tirade is on of the most downloaded clips all weekend.

For nine seasons “Kramer” and the cast of Seinfeld made its way through our televisions and into our lives.  The quick-witted show with the notorious slap-bass jingle brought situational humor to a new level explaining why its syndication came as no surprise once the show ended  Richards starred on "Seinfeld" from 1989 to 1998 and had his own NBC sitcom, "The Michael Richards Show," in 2000.

Due to the recent outburst and public shock, BetUS.com, the largest most successful sportsbook on the web, posted odds on Michael Richards.
