Paris Hilton was due in court at 9:00 AM PST, she has yet to leave her Hollywood Hills home. There was a bit of confusion regarding Hilton appearing in court this morning. After a battle between her attorney and the prosecutor over whether Hilton could appear via telephone, the judge is ordering Paris to get to court.
Paris was released from jail and sent home to finish her sentence on house arrest. Sheriff Lee Baca was responsible for releasing Hilton early. The city attorney filed a petition yesterday after Sheriff Baca released Hilton. Judge Michael T. Sauer ordered Paris Hilton to report to court Friday morning.
The city attorney also question whether Sheriff Lee Baca should be held in contempt of court. Sheriff Lee Baca spoke to the Los Angeles Times Thursday afternoon.
“The problem here is that there is a medical issue and it isn't wise to keep a person in jail with her problem over an extended period of time and let the problem get worse. In my opinion, justice is being served by the decision to have her serve her time at home. She would still be in the county jail if it were not for the medical advice. My message to those who don't like celebrities is that punishing celebrities more than the average American is not justice," he said.
It is a very good possibility Paris Hilton will be returning to jail this afternoon. Judge Michael T. Sauer initially ordered Hilton to serve a 45-day jail sentence after she violated her probation from an alcohol-related reckless driving charge. The judge made it clear electronic monitoring would not be a possible form of punishment for Paris Hilton.
