Paris Hilton was released from jail early Thursday due to an unspecified medical condition. Hilton was sent home around 2:00 a.m. wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet. She will serve the remainder of her sentence on house arrest.
Paris Hilton served three full days at the Century Regional Detention Center in Lynwood, California. Because she checked in late Sunday night and checked out early Thursday morning, she is being credited with five days. Hilton is expected to serve 40 days confined to her Hollywood Hills home.
Steve Whitmore, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department made the following statement:
“After extensive consultation with Los Angeles County Medical Personnel, including doctors at the Century Regional Detention Facility, it has been determined that Paris Hilton will be reassigned to the community based alternatives to custody: the CBAC Program. Ms. Hilton has been in custody for five days and therefore will be serving 40 days in the electronic monitoring program under the supervision of the Los Angeles County Probation Department.”
Paris was assigned to the “special needs” housing unit in the jail. She was segregated from the other 2,200 inmates housed at the facility. Hilton’s lawyer, Richard Hutton, said his client was doing well under the circumstances. However, reports were surfacing that Paris was crying a lot and not eating.
Whitmore made it clear that Paris was not released early. She was reassigned and is technically still in custody.
