‘My Blueberry Nights’ one of the most anticipated movies of 2007 is getting plenty of buzz around Cannes as its prestigious Film Festival begins today. My Blueberry Nights, directed and co-written by Wong Kar Wai, is a dramatic journey hinting at the distance between a broken heart and a new departure, brings together Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz, David Strathairn and, for her first experience on the big screen, jazz singer Norah Jones. Oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodog.com give the film 10/1 odds of taking the top-prize at Cannes , The Golden Palm Award. While filmed mostly in Nevada, the movie does not have Hollywood roots but was produced via Hong Kong, China and France. The production is Wong Kar Wai’s first English language film. Wong Kar Wai described his sentimental road movie : "Sometimes the tangible distance between two persons can be quite small but the emotional one can be miles. My Blueberry Nights is a look at those distances, from various angles. I wanted to explore these expanses, both figuratively and literally, and the lengths it takes to overcome them.” Wong Kar Wai will also be honored at this year’s Festival during the presentation of ‘To Each His Cinema’ on Sunday May 20th. This collection of short film segments was especially made for the celebration of the 60th edition of the Cannes Festival.
The top American entry and Golden Palm Award nominee, ‘No Country For Old Men' , written and directed by Ethan and Joel Cohen, is expected to do well in the competition and possibly challenge ‘My Blueberry Nights’ for the top prize. Starring Josh and James Brolin, Tommy Lee Jones, Woody Harrelson and Kelly McDonald, the film follows Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), a husband out hunting near the Rio Grande who comes across a drug deal gone sour. Moss discovers a cache of heroin, two million dollars and several bodies. When two more men end up murdered, the local Sheriff realizes Moss and his wife need protection. Things turn dangerous when various men, ranging from ruthless freelancers to ex-Special Forces members, turn up to find out the truth and destroy all the evidence. ‘No Country for Old Men’ based on the Cormac McArthy novel of the same name is getting 11/1 odds by Bodog.com to win the Cannes’ Film Festival Golden Palm Award.
