Wagering opens on final J K Rowling Potter book Harry Potter and the Deathly HallowsThanks to WagerWeb.com , one of the leaders in online sports betting, we may now bet on the results of the seventh and final installment of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Wagerweb.com has posted odds on 20 combinations of characters that might be killed-off based on the recent announcement by Rowling that two main characters will die in the final installment. Truthfully, Rowling has been saying for years some main characters will die before the end. So far only Hogwarts School Master Albus Dumbledore and Potter mentor Sirius Black have met any unfortunate fate.

We are thrilled at Point-Spreads.com that WagerWeb has provided online gaming fans with such a thorough list of odds. We think there is plenty of money to be made betting on the young wizard from Hogwarts School.

As the father of a young child I had the privilege of reading the early books, Sorcerers Stone, Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban orally at bed time. As the books became darker and more complicated and the kid got older I read the last three books to myself. What I am telling you is….Dad was hooked.

As we eagerly anticipate the arrival of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows , we can only speculate on the outcome but won’t really know until we read the book. But if you have followed the story and have a good sense of recall, you will know Rowling has left us hints of things to come.

Personally, I think Harry Potter will survive the bloodletting in Deathly Hallows and I draw this conclusion from something Dumbledore told Harry way back in book three, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ; however, first I must bring you up to date.

In the book, Harry saved the life of Peter Pettigrew, an animagus (a person who can transform into an animal and back) who betrayed Harry’s parents to Voldemort. Following the betrayal, Pettigrew transformed into a Rat (an appropriate species for Pettigrew) and spent the next 12 years as Scabbers, a pet in the Weasley household.  After it was revealed Ron Weasley’s pet rat was Pettigrew, Sirius Black attempts to kill Pettigrew but is stopped by Harry. In the melee, Pettigrew returns to rat form and runs into the forest free to join his ally Lord Voldemort.

The reason I believe Pettigrew will reappear in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is what Dumbledore says. “Pettigrew owes his life to you. You have sent Voldemort a deputy who is in your debt.” A character like that is an important ally for Harry to have during the final wizard war. Because of this prediction by Dumbledore in Book-Three, I believe Pettigrew will step in to save Harry from Voldemort in Deathly Hallows. In the process, I expect Pettigrew to lose his life and probably Voldemort as well.

Of the 20 wagering combinations offered by Wagerweb.com, Harry Potter is in eight of them. Because I believe Harry survives, I will eliminate these eight possibilities.

The eight futures/props odds involving the character Harry Potter.

Harry Potter Odds posted on WagerWeb.com ask bettors to predict which two characters will be killed as follows:

Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort +300 (Bet $100 to win $300 profit)

Harry Potter and Draco Malfoy +400 (Bet $100 to win $400 profit)

Harry Potter and Hermione Granger+500 (Bet $100 to win $500 profit)

Harry Potter and Ron Weasley +600 (Bet $100 to win $600 profit)

Harry Potter and Professor Snape +700 (Bet $100 to win $700 profit)

Harry Potter and Peter Pettigrew +800 (Bet $100 to win $800 profit)

Harry Potter and Neville Longbottom +2400 (bet $100 to win $2400 profit)

Harry Potter and Professor Dumbledore*+3500 (Bet $100 to win $3500 profit) *NOTE: if for some reason Dumbledore isn't actually dead and returns in book seven alive.

Oddly enough some of the above odds are what oddsmakers consider to be the most likely scenarios. In all of the above, Harry must die. That is why I throw these out. Other wagering combinations below are accompanied with my comment on its value.

Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley +900 (Bet $100 to win $900 profit) One of these might die but not both.

Lord Voldemort and Professor Snape +1000 (Bet $100 to win $1000 profit) I think this is a great value. I think Harry kills both Voldemort and Snape.

Lord Voldemort and Lucius Malfoy +1200 (Bet $100 to win $1200 profit) I am on the fence on this one. I can see Malfoy having a change in heart in order to save his family.

Lord Voldemort and Peter Pettigrew +1400 (Bet $100 to win $1400 profit) Cha-Ching! You better play it now.

Professor Snape and Draco Malfoy +1600 (Bet $100 to win $1600 profit) I think Malfoy survives

Professor Snape and Lucius Malfoy +1800 (Bet $100 to win $1800 profit) Snape is a dead man. Not sure about Lucius.

Professor Snape and Peter Pettigrew +2000 (Bet $100 to win $2000 profit) ding-ding-ding-ding-ding-ding….You win $2000!

Hermione Granger and Lord Voldemort +2600 (Bet $100 to win $2600 profit) Will Rowling kill off her young mud-blood starlet? I don’t think so.

Remus Lupin and Percy Weasley +2800 (Bet $100 to win $2800 profit) it has its possibilities. I never considered these two main characters.

Professor Snape and Neville Longbottom +3000 (Bet $100 to win $3000 profit) Very possible these two die. At +3000 I like it. I do see Neville coming of age in Deathly Hallows.

The Weasley Twins +4000 (Bet $100 to win $4000 profit) Not the twins; these guys will get involved in the war and at least one Weasley might die but not the twins.

Field (any/all combinations not listed below) -600 (Bet $600 to win $100 profit) Probably so but who will risk $600 to win $100. Not me!
