It seems that Brad Pitt was just as suprised as everyone else when his picture was used for the cover shot of the Vanity Fair December issue. He was pictured in his underwear for their Art issue.
Although reps for Vanity Fair claim they sent a letter to Pitt's managers stating that they would be using the pic, Pitt claims he never saw the letter. His lawyers are said to be weighing their legal options which once can only assume means they may sue the magazine for using his picture without authorization.

Vanity Fair stands by their decision stating that Pitt posed for a photo shoot with photographer Robert Wilson. Pitt signed the release form which allows WIlson to use the portrait or any images from that sitting in connection with any publicity on Wilson's video project. The magazine decided to do a story on Wilson's video portrait and obtained rights to the entire collection of photographs from those sittings, which included Pitt's photos.
Bet on whether Brad Pitt will sue Vanity Fair in 2006 for using unauthorized pictures of him on the cover of their December 2006 art issue?
Pitt's representative says, "We are very disappointed that Vanity Fair has chosen to put an unathorized cover on their magazine. It seriously makes me question their integrity and motives."

Pitt is extremely furious over the use of the pics. He stands by the fact that he had no idea the pics would be used and had he known in advance he may have been a bit more open to the idea of the being on the cover. Pitt may end up sueing for illegal use of the pics but only time will tell.
