Will Snoop Dogg beat the rap?

by Thomas Jensen on Monday, November 20th, 2006

Will Snoop Dogg beat the rap?Snoop Dog is once again facing some heat.  He was issued a warrant for his arrest with a bail set at $150,000 for possession of a weapon.  The rapper, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, was stopped at the John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, CA on September 27th.  A 20 inch extendable baton was found in his laptop bag.

If Snoop Dog is convicted he may face a maximum sentence of up to three years in jail.  However, everyone knows celebrity jail time is usually the sentence cut in third.  Snoop is claiming he did not know the baton was illegal and revealed that he was going to use it as a prop in his video.  The baton was confiscated and he was allowed to continue on his flight to San Francisco.

He then encountered another run in on October 26th when he was stopped for a traffic violation at the Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, CA.  Also during the stop an unlicensed gun and a quantity of marijuana were found while they searched his vehicle.  He was charged with possession of a firearm and transportation of a controlled substance.  He was released on $35,000 bail.  His case is set to be heard on December 13, 2006.  He just recently performed at the 13th Annual MTV Europe Music Awards in Copenhagen but has failed to give a comment on the charges.

This is not the first run-ins he has had with the law.  He was convicted on a felony narcotics possession charge in 1990 for trying to sell cocaine.  Six months ago he and 11 members of his entourage were detained by police at London's Heathrow Airport after a skirmish that left seven police officers with minor injuries.  While in England for his 1994 "Doggystyle" tour he was almost kicked out of the country after aTory minister and several British tabloids raised objections to his presence while he faced charges in the US for murder.  He was later cleared of that charge.

December 13 is just around the corner and the question everyone wants to know is if Snoop Dogg will be sentenced to jail time for possession of a deadly weapon.  Because of his celebrity status many believe the charges will be dropped.  He may get to settle for a lesser penalty.  Celebrities do tend to get away with a bit more then normal people.
