Willie Nelson busted for Pot and Shrooms On Monday September 18, 2006 Willie Nelson and 4 others were given misdemeanor citations for possession of narcotic mushrooms and marijuana after a routine traffic stop in Lafayette, Louisiana. The 4 others included Tony Sizemore, 59, of St. Cloud, FL, Bobbie Nelson, 75 (Willie’s sister), Gates Moore, 54, of Austin, Texas, and David Anderson, 50, of Dallas, Texas.

During the stop, when the state trooper approached Nelson’s tour bus a cloud of smoke along with a strong scent of marijuana engulfed the trooper as if someone lit a smoke bomb. A search of the bus resulted in the troopers finding 1 ½ pounds of marijuana and 0.2 pounds of “magic” mushrooms.

Nelson has not been shy about his drug use over the years. Recently “Jackass” star Johnny Knoxville joked that during the making of “Dukes of Hazzard” he tried to keep up with Nelson but failed. “I’m not a weed person but when Willie Nelson passes you a joint, you don’t say no,” Knoxville said in an interview for Playboy Magazine.

Nelson got into a bit of trouble several years ago for not paying taxes for quite some time. In 1990 the IRS issued him a $16 million bill and seized most of his assets to cover it. Nelson used his experience as a publicity stunt when he released a fund-raising double album called “The IRS Tapes-Who Will Buy My Memories”.

Willie Nelson has always been an advocate for the legalization of marijuana. He has been known to be addicted to the drug for many, many years. The 73 year old singer is popular for his hippie, psychedelic appearance which hasn’t changed much over the years. Marijuana is a fixture in Nelson’s wardrobe along with a thick cloud of smoke and a scent that has made people around him drop to their knees.

Based on his past experiences with marijuana and “magic” mushrooms and his recent run in with the law, Nelson may have to do jail time for the possession of the narcotics. People wonder why the award winning singer smokes reefer so frequently. Is it for medical reasons or could it just be for inspiration? He may have been using the “hash” and “shrooms” for a special salad? Whatever the reason, the citations are only a minor setback in Nelson’s favorite pastime.
