The 54th running of the race is scheduled for a 12:00pm ET start on FOX. The latest 2012 Daytona 500 Odds have Dale Earnhardt Jr., a one time Daytona 500 winner, and Kyle Busch listed as +800 moneyline favorites to win the legendary event. Pole sitter Carl Edwards, who finished runner-up to Tony Stewart in last year’s “Chase for the Championship”, is listed at +1200 odds to capture his first Daytona 500.

The Favorites-

Dale Earnhardt Jr. (+800, Starting 3rd): Dale Earnhardt Jr. has not experienced the same kind of success at winning championships that his father did, but he has compiled an impressive resume at the speedway that claimed the life of his legendary dad. Junior, who took 24th at last year’s even despite winning the pole, has two wins in 24 starts at Daytona, including the 2004 Daytona 500, as well as eight top five and 13 top 10 finishes at the speedway.

Kyle Busch (+800, Starting 28th): The outspoken younger Busch, who drives the No. 18 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing, has seven Daytona 500 starts, but he has never won the race. He does, however, own two top 10 finishes in the race. Busch also has one win at the speedway and five top five finishes in 14 career races at the track.

Tony Stewart (+1000, Starting 10th): The three-time NASCAR Champion has three career wins at the Daytona International Speedway (26 starts); however, none of those victories came in the Daytona 500. In 13 Daytona 500 starts Stewart has three top five and six top 10 finishes; he took 13th at last year’s race after starting 25th.

Jimmie Johnson (+1000, Starting 12th): The 2006 Daytona 500 winner and five time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion has 20 career starts at Daytona International Speedway. While recording just one victory (the aforementioned 2006 title), he does have nine top 10 finishes at the track, four of which came in the Daytona 500.

Jeff Gordon (+1000, Starting 6th): The Hendrick Motorsports teammate of Jimmie Johnson and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and four time Sprint Cup Champion will chase his fourth Daytona 500 victory on Sunday. Gordon, who finished 28th last year, also has five top five and eight top 10 finishes in the event (19 starts). He has six wins and 19 top 10 finishes in 38 career starts at the track.

The red hot St. Louis Blues put their franchise record 21-game home point streak on the line tonight, Wednesday Feb 22nd, as they host the suddenly slumping Boston Bruins. The Blues won their last meeting 2-1 (SO), in Boston, back in 2010. NHL oddsmakers have installed the Blues as -125 moneyline home favorites over the Bruins (+105) with the over/under set at 5 goals. Be sure to make your Boston Bruins vs St.Louis Blues 2012 NHL Predictions before they drop the puck.

Boston (3520, 17-10 V) lost to Minnesota 0-2 on the road, on Sunday. Tim Thomas made 27 saves for the Bruins, who have lost six of 10 and were shut out for the fourth time in nine games. “Like we’ve told the guys, we can either be bitter or better, and let’s work on getting better here,” Boston coach Claude Julien said. “And that’s what we’re going to try to do here in the next few days.”

St. Louis puts its franchise record 21-game home point streak on the line this evening as it looks to deal Boston its first three-game slide since late October. The Blues have been one of the more dominating teams this year on home ice, where they are 26-3-4 this season and haven’t lost in regulation since Dec. 3. They have gone 18-0-3 at Scottrade Center since and sit fourth overall in the Western Conference with 79 points, five back of Detroit for first place. The Bruins have lost six of nine this month and have been shut out four times in that span.

St.Louis (36-16, 26-3 H) lost to Chicago 1-3 on the road, on Sunday. Goaltender Brian Elliott was coming off a shutout win over the visiting Wild on Saturday and held the Blackhawks off the board through the first two periods before getting beat twice in the final frame. Elliott made 24 saves and Andy McDonald scored in his third straight game for the Blues, while Patrik Berglund and Jamie Langenbrunner each posted an assist for a third straight game. Langenbrunner suffered a broken left foot and was placed on injured reserve Tuesday. He is expected to be re-evaluated in four weeks.

The Blues have a chance tonight to deal the Bruins their first three-game slide since Oct. 22-29. Boston followed that season-high slide by winning 10 straight and 21 of their next 24, but have gone 11-11-1 since Dec. 31 and now own just a two-point edge over Ottawa for first place in the Northeast Division. The Blues have won nine of their last 11 versus the Bruins, with three of the past six encounters ending in shootout fashion. That includes St. Louis’ 2-1 victory at Boston in the lone meeting last season.

Recent Trends to Consider:
Over is 3-1-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Bruins are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in St. Louis.
Underdog is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Bruins are 3-13-1 in the last 17 meetings.
Road team is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings.
Blues are 4-0 in their last 4 games playing on 2 days rest.
Blues are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Northeast.
Bruins are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Central.
Bruins are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game.
Bruins are 1-5 in their last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game.

The Dallas Mavericks host the Los Angeles Lakers tonight, Wednesday Feb 22nd, as Laker Andrew Bynum makes his return to American Airlines Center, where he was ejected from the Game 4 loss last season for clotheslining Mav J.J. Barea. NBA oddsmakers have the Mavericks as -4.5 point home favorites over the Lakers with the over/under set at 180 points. Be sure to make your Los Angeles Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks 2012 NBA Picks before the game tips off.

Los Angeles (19-13, 5-11 V) pounded Portland, 103-92, at Staples Center on Monday. The game wasn’t remotely that close. The Blazers took a 3-0 lead and then all the Lakers did was go on a 37-4 run. One night after giving up a season-high 63 points in the first half of a loss at Phoenix, the Lakers yielded a season-low 30 to Portland. Bryant had 28 points to lead the Lakers. It was only the fifth time this season the Lakers reached triple digits in points.

Kobe says he thinks the trade rumors are affecting Pau Gasol’s game, but the Spaniard has 10 straight double-doubles – his longest streak as a Laker — after putting up 16 points and 12 boards against the Blazers. GM Mitch Kupchak wouldn’t commit to taking Gasol’s name out of trade talks with the standard “I will do whatever makes the team better”. Steve Blake can thank his improved rhythm and conditioning for restoring his shooting stroke. He had a season-high 17 points on six-of-nine shooting overall (and five-of-six mark from three-point range) in 21 minutes. It showcased his quick reaction time, his rhythm and his sharp shooting — three elements that appeared absent in the past five games after returning from a rib injury that had kept him sidelined for 13 games. Blake averaged five points on 31.4% shooting during that stretch, a sharp contrast to the 7.3 points on 40.2% shooting he provided through 12 games before his injury.

Dallas (21-12, 13-5 H) had little trouble with visiting Boston on Monday night, winning 89-73. Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 26 points and a season-high 16 boards. Since getting a four-game break to strengthen his sore right knee and improve his game conditioning, Nowitzki is averaging 21.7 points the last 13 games. The Mavs are 9-4 in that stretch. Dallas has found some guard help off the bench in Dominque Jones. He had seven points, five assists and one turnover in 25 minutes against Boston. And perhaps more importantly he played well enough that starter Jason Kidd spent the last 15 minutes on the bench.

The Mavs are carefully monitoring Jason Kidd’s minutes, which has become especially vital with backup point guard Delonte West out 3-5 weeks with a fractured ring finger and fellow guard Rodrigue Beaubois having missed the last three games because of his father’s death. He won’t play tonight and reportedly is on the trade market. The 38-year-old Kidd already has missed 10 games this year. The Mavs’ bench has been a problem otherwise of late. In the past two games, Vince Carter has averaged 6.5 points on 31.2 percent shooting and grabbed only four rebounds in 53 minutes. And Odom, a huge disappointment, is 3-for-14 from the field (0-for-9 from long range) in the past two games for six points.

Recent Trends to Consider:
Over is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Dallas.
Road team is 13-6-1 ATS in the last 20 meetings.
Lakers are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Dallas.
Lakers are 0-5 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.
Mavericks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
Mavericks are 12-3 ATS in their last 15 home games vs. a team with a losing road record.
Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600.
Lakers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Dallas Mavericks
When: Wednesday, Feb 22nd@9:30 PM EST
Pick: Mavericks -4.5

Point-Spreads recommends you check the Lakers vs Mavericks 2012 NBA Picks before the game tips off.

Bill Self’s squad hits the home stretch this evening when it takes on Texas A&M at the Reed Arena in College Station; the game is scheduled to tip off at 9:00pm ET on ESPN2. The latest NCAAB Picks have the Jayhawks listed as a -10.5 against the spread road favorite and the Over/Under set at 123.5 points.

Kansas State did its arch rival Kansas a huge favor last night by upsetting No. 3 Missouri in Columbia. The loss dropped the Tigers league record to 12-3, leaving them a half game back of the Jayhawks in the Big 12 standings. Now all Kansas (22-5) needs to do is take care of business in College Station tonight and it will head into Saturday’s meetings with Missouri, which will take place at the legendary Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, with a one game lead on the Tigers.

Taking care of business against Texas A&M (13-13 overall, 4-10 Big 12) appears to be second nature for Kansas under the leadership of Self as it has won nine of its last 10 meetings opposite the Aggies. A&M did cover the spread (19 points) when the two teams hooked up in Lawrence earlier this year, but it lost 54-64 nonetheless.

Thomas Robinson posted an 18 point, 10 rebound double-double in the victory while Tyshawn Taylor added 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. Jeff Withey also scored in double figures, totaling 10 points, but even more impressive were the eight blocks the big man recorded.

Kansas, which has won four straight coming into tonight’s game, will meet an Aggies squad this time around that has lost five of its last six games, including its last three at the Reed Arena. A&M most recently fell to the aforementioned Tigers 62-71 on Saturday in College Station.

The Aggies got 15 points from forward Khris Middleton, who saw his most extensive action since returning to the lineup on February 11th, but the team’s overall offensive effort proved futile as Missouri shot 56.1 percent from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc.

Tonight should be more of the same for A&M, which has no one capable of matching up inside with Robinson and Withey or outside with Taylor. The only danger for Kansas this evening is the look-ahead factor, something that could have played a part in the Tigers demise last night.

A total of 64 players will compete at the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship, Wednesday Feb 22nd@9:00 AM ET. All the big names will be at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain, Arizona except Phil Mickelson (family) and Paul Casey (injury). It’s a bracket style tournament where the winner moves on, the loser goes home. There is four brackets which are: Gary Player, Bobby Jones, Sam Snead and Ben Hogan. PGA oddsmakers have Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods installed as 11/1 odds favorites to win the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship. Let’s take a look at the favorites leading the pack. Be sure to make your WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship Predictions early.

What they will face is officially the longest course on the PGA TOUR. At a listed 7,791 yards, the layout can be stretched nearly 100 yards beyond the total from the tips at Torrey Pines South. However, a glance at the champions proves that the Jack Nicklaus design doesn’t necessarily embrace the long ball: Geoff Ogilvy (2009), Ian Poulter (2010), Luke Donald (2011).

Rory McIlroy 11/1 – is in the Gary Player bracket. Including his victory at the Shanghai Masters, he has nine top-fives (including two wins) in his last 10 starts worldwide. Says his swing changes haven’t fully clicked in, but he’s still played well in recent weeks. 5-3 record in three starts.

Tiger Woods 11/1- is in the Sam Snead bracket. The focus will be on three-time Match Player winner Tiger Woods, who is the fifth seed in this bracket. Frankly this bracket seems wide open. Of the top three seeds, Lee Westwood has struggled in this event, Webb Simpson has never played in it, and Bill Haas has just one first-round loss (and must refocus after winning the Northern Trust Open). Tiger Woods has reached the finals in this event four times; he’s won three of them. His only loss? A 4 and 3 decision to Darren Clarke in 2000. If Tiger can get past Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano and Clarke can upset Nick Watney, they’ll see each other again on Thursday.

Luke Donald 16/1 – is in the Bobby Jones bracket. The defending champ is 16-6 in seven appearances. While off to a rough start in 2012, he missed the cut on the eve of his win here a year ago. He dominated last year but only Tiger Woods has won back-to-back Match Play titles. 16-6 record in seven showings.

Lee Westwood 16/1 – is in the Sam Snead bracket. Westwood summed it up best about his AMPC track record: “I would love to know what the Friday is like playing there.” 7-11 record in 11 appearances.

Sergio Garcia 20/1 – Comes off a spectacular final round of 64 at Northern Trust in his 2012 TOUR debut. 12-10 record in nine starts.

Odds to win the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship 2012:
Rory McIlroy 11/1
Tiger Woods 11/1
Luke Donald 16/1
Lee Westwood 16/1
Sergio Garcia 20/1
Martin Kaymer 22/1
Webb Simpson 28/1
Dustin Johnson 28/1
Ian Poulter 28/1
Adam Scott 28/1
Steve Stricker 28/1
Jason Day 33/1
Bill Haas 33/1
Charl Schwartzel 33/1
Nick Watney 33/1
Bubba Watson 33/1
Keegan Bradley 40/1
Matt Kuchar 40/1
Hunter Mahan 40/1
Aaron Baddeley 50/1
Rickie Fowler 50/1

Point-Spreads recommends you check the full list of PGA Tour Odds before the first tee time.

The Bottom Line: Tiger is in a weak bracket and can win, but the young guns on tour might steal one this weekend.

The blistering Detroit Red Wings are in Motown tonight, Tuesday Feb 21st, to cool off the surging Chicago Blackhawks. The Red Wings have won two straight meetings over the Blackhawks, both in overtime. NHL oddsmakers have installed the Blackhawks as -115 moneyline home favorites over the Red Wings (-105) with the over/under set at 5.5 goals. Be sure to make your Detroit Red Wings vs Chicago Blackhawks 2012 NHL Odds before they drop the puck.

Detroit (41-17, 15-15 V) bested another mark on Sunday with a 3-2 win over the visiting Sharks, for their 23rd straight home win. The Wings got goals from Henrik Zetterberg, Drew Miller and Darren Helm on Sunday to finish off a perfect six-game homestand. Goalie Joey MacDonald started all six games of the homestand and extended his personal winning streak with 31 saves. MacDonald has been filling in for the injured Jimmy Howard, but the No. 1 is ready to return tonight from a broken right index finger. Howard hasn’t played since Feb. 2, but is still tied for the league lead in wins with 32. Zetterberg has 3 goals, 3 assists during a 4 game point streak

Detroit could have Danny Cleary back on the ice tonight after he missed the final five games of the homestand due to a left knee issue. The Red Wings have won two straight in overtime versus the Blackhawks and have won three of the past four encounters overall. They have also captured five of their last seven trips to Chicago.

Chicago (32-21, 20-6 H) has rebounded to win three straight, taking the final two contests of a nine-game road trip before kicking off a three-game homestand on Sunday with a 3-1 win over the Blues. Goalie Corey Crawford allowed a first-period goal, but settled down to make 29 saves. The Blackhawks then ensured their netminder a victory when Duncan Keith and Dave Bolland scored in the third to put Chicago ahead. Marian Hossa capped the scoring with an empty-net tally.

Patrick Sharp has peppered opposing goaltenders with 199 shots, which ranks third in the Western Conference and 12th in the league entering tonight’s game — despite missing eight games last month with a broken bone in his left wrist. “It’s tough in today’s game to get scoring chances and get shots on net,” said Sharp, who has a combined 11 shots during the Hawks’ three-game winning streak. “The harder I work and the faster I play that seems to be coming to me more and more. You have to shoot the puck to score goals so that’s what I’ve been focusing on this year.” Sharp is on pace for 268 shots, which would match his career high set last season. With the shots have been scoring chances and he has cashed in with 24 goals, second on the Hawks behind Jonathan Toews’ 29. Shots on net aren’t just to score goals, but it also allows for rebounds.

Recent Trends to Consider:
Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Chicago.
Under is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.
Red Wings are 5-2 in the last 7 meetings in Chicago.
Favorite is 34-16 in the last 50 meetings.
Road team is 10-3 in the last 13 meetings.
Red Wings are 4-0 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game.
Red Wings are 6-0 in their last 6 vs. Central.
Red Wings are 5-0 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest.
Red Wings are 6-1 in their last 7 Tuesday games.
Blackhawks are 2-9 in their last 11 vs. Western Conference.
Blackhawks are 1-7 in their last 8 games as an underdog.

Detroit Red Wings vs Chicago Blackhawks
When: Tuesday, Feb 21st@8:00 PM EST
Pick: Wings -115

Point-Spreads recommends you make your Detroit Red Wings vs Chicago Blackhawks 2012 NHL Odds before they drop the puck.

The Bottom Line: The Wings are open and soaring, just hope goalie Jimmy Howard isn’t rusty. Go Detroit. Be sure to make your San Antonio Spurs vs Portland Trail Blazers 2012 NBA Point Spreads before the game tips off.

San Antonio (23-9, 10-8 V) got a 106-102 road victory over the Jazz on Monday. The Spurs’ 11-game winning streak has been remarkable in its varied cast of players who have produced with key efforts throughout the run. Starters Tony Parker had 23 points with 11 assists, while Tim Duncan added 20. Matt Bonner hit four 3-pointers in the first half and provided determined defensive effort in the fourth quarter. Bonner finished with a season-high 20 points in 31 minutes, 2 seconds of playing time. Richard Jefferson didn’t score until the fourth quarter, but he provided five critical points down the stretch to help salt away the victory.

The Spurs will head into Portland with an 11-game win streak and are playing as well as they have all season. Tim Duncan has logged nearly 79 minutes in his last two games. Because of that, it wouldn’t surprise me if Gregg Popovich chooses to rest Duncan or severely curtail his playing time on the back end of a back-to-back Tuesday night in Portland. Even with the team’s limited numbers, Popovich cares little about streaks and wants to keep his team away from more injuries. So don’t be shocked if we don’t see him Tuesday night against Portland — even if it means DeJuan Blair, Bonner and newcomer Eric Dawson in the lineup. If Splitter was healthy, there would be no doubt that Duncan would sit on Tuesday.

Portland (17-16, 12-5 H) has lost four of five at home since winning 11 of their first 12 at the Rose Garden. Portland snapped a four-game home skid with a 97-77 win over Atlanta on Saturday, but fell 103-92 to the Lakers in Los Angeles on Monday. LaMarcus Aldridge and Nicolas Batum each had 18 points as the Trail Blazers were unable to overcome a 29-7 first-quarter deficit Monday. It was the lowest-scoring first quarter in club history.

San Antonio has averaged 90.3 points during a six-game skid at Portland that dates to a 72-65 win April 6, 2008. It’s the team’s longest current losing streak to a single opponent. Parker had 20 points and nine assists in San Antonio’s 99-83 home win over the Trail Blazers on Jan. 13, but he’s averaged 10.8 and 3.8 assists in the last four at Portland. The veteran point guard has averaged 25.5 points in the last 10 games overall, including 29.0 and 11.7 assists over the last three.

Recent Trends to Consider:
Home team is 13-5 ATS in the last 18 meetings.
Spurs are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings.
Underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings.
Spurs are 1-7 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Portland.
Spurs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games as an underdog of 0.5-4.5.
Spurs are 8-0 ATS in their last 8 vs. Western Conference.
Spurs are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 games as a road underdog.
Trail Blazers are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games as a favorite of 0.5-4.5.
Trail Blazers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games.

San Antonio Spurs vs Portland Trailblazers
When: Tuesday, Feb 21st@10:00 PM EST
Pick: Blazers -4

Point-Spreads recommends you check the Spurs vs Trail Blazers 2012 NBA Point Spreads before the game tips off.

The Bottom Line: I can’t believe the Blazers are favored. Go Spurs. This evening’s Big 12 clash between the Tigers and Wildcats is scheduled to get underway at 7:00pm ET at the Mizzou Arena; it will be broadcast live on ESPN2. NCAA Basketball Point Spreads have Missouri listed as a -9.5 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under at 139.5 points.

Kansas State has had an up and down conference season, as evidenced by its 7-7 league record, but it would appear Frank Martin’s crew has enough key wins, at least at this juncture, to assure a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Perhaps the biggest feather in the Wildcats Big Dance cap is the 75-59 drubbing it put on Missouri in Manhattan back on January 7th.

Kansas State shut down the Tigers potent offense in that game, holding Mizzou to 32.7 percent field goal shooting and 7-for-24 from beyond the arc. Should the Wildcats turn in a similar defensive performance tonight, they will give themselves an excellent opportunity to pull off the upset and all but assure a tournament bid. Especially in light of what took place Saturday in Waco.

The Wildcats defeated No.13 Baylor 57-56 thanks to another strong defensive effort. K-State forced 18 turnovers, blocked seven shots, and recorded 10 steals in improving its overall record to 18-8.

While the Wildcats did tame the Tigers, they did not do so in Columbia, which is a far more difficult task than doing so in front of the home crowd. Missouri is 15-0 at home this season and it rides a seven game win streak into tonight’s affair.

The Tigers ran their record to 25-2 on Saturday with a 71-62 win over Texas A&M in College Station, a place Missouri had not won since 2001. Mizzou shot a staggering 56.1 percent from the field and 40 percent from long range in the critical road win. Four Tigers scored in double figures, including Kim English, who scored a game high 21 points, Marcus Denmon (14), and Michael Dixon (15).

This has been a back and forth series the past several years, but the Wildcats do hold a slight 6-4 edge in the last 10 meetings. Missouri, however, has won four in a row and 14 of its last 16 opposite Kansas State in Columbia. That streak will hit five this evening.

This evening’s game between the two Big 12 squads is scheduled to tip off at 9:00pm ET at the Frank Erwin Special Events Center; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. The latest NCAA Basketball Point Spreads have the Longhorns listed as a -2 against the spread home favorite and the Over/Under set at 128 points.

Baylor did not experience its first loss until a January 16th meeting with the Kansas Jayhawks in Lawrence, but since that setback it has posted a 5-4 record. The Bears enter tonight’s showdown with Texas on a 1-3 stretch after losing 56-57 to Kansas State in Waco on Saturday.

No. 14 Baylor, now 22-5 overall and 9-5 in conference play, hit just 20 of it 52 field goal attempts in falling to the Wildcats and only three Bears managed to reach double figures in scoring. Forwards Quincy Acy and Quincy Miller posted 14 and 12 points respectively, but their fellow big man, Perry Jones III, tallied just four points on 2-of-6 shooting. Kansas State also blocked seven shots and forced 18 Baylor turnovers in the upset.

The Bears, which won their first meeting with Texas 76-71 in Waco, can expect a less physical game tonight against the Longhorns; however, Rick Barnes’ squad is more adept at scoring the basketball than the Wildcats.

Texas, despite a 78-90 loss at Oklahoma State on Saturday, also comes in this evening’s game much hotter than the Bears. The Longhorns had won four straight prior to falling to the Cowboys, beating Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Kansas State, and Oklahoma by an average of 10.3 points per game.

Texas fell to 17-10 overall and 7-7 in the Big 12 as a result of the OSU loss, but it remains in the NCAA Tournament and will almost certainly secure a spot in the Big Dance should it finish strong. If back court mates J’Covan Brown and Myck Kabongo can stay hot (have combined for 110 points in the last three games), the Longhorns stand a good chance of going 3-1 in their last four regular season games (Baylor, at Texas Tech, Oklahoma, at Kansas).

Baylor Bears +2 (-105), Over 138 (-110)

Texas Longhorns -2 (-115), Under 138 (-110)
