Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions NFL Odds, NFL Picks & NFL Predictions: Division rivals Chicago and Detroit will mix it up this afternoon at Ford Field in the Motor City. Neither squad has anything to play, other than draft order, but that should not matter in this old school rivalry. The game is set to get underway at 1:00pm ET on FOX. NFL Odds at online bookmaker Sportsbook.com have the Bears listed as a -3 against the spread road favorite.
Chicago improved to 6-9 on Monday night with an upset victory over NFC North rival Minnesota at Soldier Field. The 36-30
overtime win was just the second for the Bears in their last eight games and it marked the third time in the last seven weeks that quarterback Jay Cutler did not throw multiple interceptions in a game.
Detroit suffered its fifth consecutive loss last weekend as the Forty Niners beat the Lions 20-6 at Candlestick Park. The setback assured that the franchise would go two straight seasons without a road win. The Lions last victory outside of Detroit came on October 28th, 2007 when they beat the Bears 16-7 at Soldier Field.
Hard to like the Bears here without anything really on the line. One wonders if they put everything into their Monday night win over Minnesota where they were at least playing in front of a home crowd. If Chicago gets behind, do not expect much fight from the Bears as they are just 1-6 straight up and against the spread on the road this season. Also, the Lions are used to playing for nothing; their effort, while usually sub-standard, should at least be close to normal.
The Lions history goes against my analysis as they are 3-7 against the spread and 2-8 straight up in their last 10 games as a home dog with a spread between 0 and 3.5. Further mudding the waters is the fact that Chicago is 3-3 as a road favorite in Detroit with a spread between 0 and 3.5. The x-factor in today's game could be quarterback Duante Culpepper, who is starting in place of the injured Matthew Stafford. Culpepper is no stranger to the Bears, having played for the Vikings for five seasons prior to stints in Miami, Oakland, and Detroit. He has, however, been a stranger to success in the Motor City, going 0-9 in nine starts as a Lion.
