The Jets are doing everything they can to take the ball out of QB Mark Sanchez’ hands and if they want to go deep into the playoffs; that’s a great start. Their overall offense is ranked 20th in the league while averaging the 17th most points per-game (21.8ppg). They have the league’s second worst pass game that barely musters up 150 yards a game. QB Mark Sanchez has thrown for 2,444 yards and 12 TD passes, but has a whopping 20 interceptions. He’s gone their last two games without a TD or an interception because they don’t want him throwing the ball. Their top WR Jericho Cotchery has 821 yards receiving and three TD’s, while WR Braylon Edwards is second with 680 yards receiving and four TD’s. Edwards is known for his exceptional ability to make catches and if the Jets do decide to throw the ball, he’ll need to make it happen. They’ll rely on their bread n butter, their league’s best running game that averages 174 yards a game, thanks to RB Thomas Jones . RB Jones leads their ground game with 1,402 yards rushing and is their top scorer with 14 TD’s; he has three TD’s in his last two games. They can also rely on powerful rookie Shonn Greene and the electric Brad Smith, who have a combined 748 yards rushing and three TD’s. .
On defense is where the Jets shine and shine brightly they do. They have the league’s best defense that allows the least amount of points per-game (14.8ppg) . Against the pass they lead the league thanks to their devastating pass rush and the brilliant mind of Coach Rex Ryan. Still, the defense has a major problem this week with the ankle injury to middle linebacker David Harris, which could force Ryan Fowler and young Kenwin Cummings into action, but you can be sure Harris will try his best to play. Harris leads their defensive unit with 5.5 sacks, 81 tackles and two interceptions. Their defense has some of the best in the league at pulling down interceptions, as a team they have 17 interceptions, and CB Derrelle Davis leads with six. Against the rush they are ranked eighth best, which is great, but having a good running game doesn’t win you Championships, defense does.
Their field goal making is something the Jets struggle with. They have a 17th ranked kicker in Jay Feely who has made 30 of 36 and since week 14 he’s struggled making nine of 12. With the league’s best running game the Jets should be able to get first downs and move forward, but if they can’t Feely will have to be at his best.
