The Eagles (11-5) were shutout 0-24 during their last regular season game, in Dallas. QB Donovan McNabb made 20 of 36 passes for 223 yards and that’s it. RB Brian Westbrook had a low five carries for 17 yards, while TE Brett Celek made seven catches for 96 yards. The Cowboys constantly pressured McNabb and shut down the Eagles on the ground. Donovan McNabb failed to top 230 yards passing in either game against Dallas. In the first meeting, 16-20 Eagles loss at home, McNabb was sacked four times and threw two interceptions. In their two losses the Eagles have been outscored by the Cowboys 16-44, while they managed only 144 yards rushing and 399 yards passing. The Eagles ninth ranked rush defense must slow down the Cowboys RB’s Marion Barber and Felix Jones and force QB Tony Romo to throw the ball . Romo has thrown two interceptions in his last two games, and the Eagles have the deep backs to steal a few from the Cowboys. CB Asante Samuel has nine on the season and CB Sheldon Brown has five. Asante Samuel has to stop Cowboys Miles Austin, while DE Trent Cole has to beat Cowboys Flozell Adams to get to Romo. Romo has been great, but the Eagles got to him six times this season. They have sacks from 15 different players this year, making it tough to diagnose where the pressure is coming from. The Eagles finished the regular season 5-3 SU on the road where they averaged 25ppg and gave up an average 20ppg. In their last three games the Eagles have averaged 19ppg and given up an average 21.3ppg.
The Cowboys (11-5) QB Tony Romo made 24 of 34 passes with two TD passes and an interception. RB Marion Barber had 14 carries for 91 yards, while RB Felix Jones had 15 for 91 yards and a TD. Their receiving core played great. WR Patrick Crayton made four catches for 99 yards with a TD, while WR Miles Austin made seven for 90 yards. TE Jason Witten was Romo’s usual go to guy with six catches for 76 yards with a TD. The Cowboys have the Eagles figured out after playing a perfect game last week. But, since the Cowboys played a perfect game they likely can’t play any better, thus giving the Eagles the advantage. The Eagles will study tape, find out where they failed and how they’ll get around the Cowboys defense. The Cowboys have seen the Eagles fire-zone blitz scheme so many times they’ve figured out where and when to run the ball . They shut down the Eagles running game containing Eagles RB LeSean McCoy to three touches for 9 yards and the return of Brian Westbrook proved useless, he managed 37 yards on nine touches. When RB McCoy was the Eagles lone back, he had 637 yards rushing and four TD’s, they should give the ground duties to McCoy and let Westbrook be a short yardage specialist. The Cowboys finished the regular season 5-3 SU at home where they averaged 24.9ppg and gave up an average 13.9ppg. In their last three games the Cowboys have averaged 21.7ppg and given up an average 5.7ppg.
