Odds to Win the 2009 AFC Championship

by Matt Foust on Friday, January 9th, 2009

The 2009 AFC Championship will take place next Sunday night, January 18th at 6:30pm ET (CBS). There are currently four teams still playing for the coveted Lamar Hunt Trophy, those being the San Diego Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Baltimore Ravens. Odds to win the 2009 AFC Championship at Sportsbook.com have the Steelers listed as the favorite at +175 on the money line.Odds to Win the 2009 AFC Championship

Pittsburgh Head Coach Mike Tomlin, in just his second year leading the franchise, guided his squad to another AFC North title. Last year the Steelers captured the division crown with a 10-6 finish, but made an early exit from the playoffs when Jacksonville ousted them in the Wild Card round. Odds makers and bettors alike clearly believe that will not be the case with this year's 12-4 team.

The Steelers, by virtue of their number two conference playoff seed, received a bye last weekend and watched as the San Diego Chargers fought their way past the Colts for a Heinz Field rematch this Sunday afternoon. The rest was no doubt benefical for Pittsburgh as starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still recovering from a concussion incurred in the season finale against the Browns.

Pittsburgh narrowly escaped the surging Chargers back in November, winning by a score of 11-10. Should they defeat San Diego again, they will face another familiar foe. The Steelers have beat the Ravens twice this season by a combined seven points, but they lost to the Titans 14-31 in Tennessee on December 21st.

Sportsbook.com's Odds to Win the 2009 AFC Championship:

Pittsburgh Steelers +175

Tennessee Titans +225

Baltimore Ravens +300

San Diego Chargers +350
